Developed in 1700's from miniature Bulldogs and possibly Pugs, the French Bulldog is thought to actually be of British origin. The French, however, claim that this an old breed of French ancestry. Most likely, a combination of these theories is closest to the truth. A very well-muscled and sturdy dog, the little Bouledogue Francais is deeply loyal to its owner, which makes it, coupled with its size and temperament, an ideal pet.
The short coat is very smooth and fine, coming in solid colours of black, white or blue, as well as shades of fawn, brown and brindle with white markings. The height is around 12 inches.
