Beautiful pooch, but I've never seen a Mannera Dog that looked like this example. It looks like some of the CO or CAO types, especially with the eastern crop of the ears. Would this be a representative of the old Cane di Mannera variety, before the influence of other breeds, such as the GSD?

The car in the background seems to be a recent one...

It could be a scanned pic from the newspaper or just a new black-n-white photo. But in any case, the dog pictured here looks quite different from the majority of Mannera Dogs I've seen. It is known that the original Cane di Mannera was usually light-coloured or white, so this specimen might be a preserved strain representative of the old type.

I remember a colour version of this pic. This dog is ivory white with yrllow patches.

this is a well-known picture...it was also published on an italian book about 8-10 years ago... (i've never seen it in colour version). people who has been trying to get infos about "cane di mannera" searching for it in nebrodi (east sicily) area, are often reporting that most of livestock protecting dogs are cross-breeds between sicilian sheperds and maremmano-abruzzese,or (increasingly in the past few years) COs!

the car directly behind the dog is (or the wheels are from) a Fiat 131 Mirafiori (characteristic wheels) - produced between 1974 to 1984. The one in the background looks like a Citroen Xantia, popular in Sicily because of its comfortable suspension on rough roads. It was produced between 1993 and 2001. If that's any help. So the photo is not that old. Looks like a CAO cross.
