    • Also known as burdogue or bordoga, the campeiro bulldog is a bully dog, with medium structure and very rustic load. It was born to the cattle work and was used in this function in wide scale some years ago in several states of Brazil, especially in the states of the south. It was used to work in stays and farms, in the slaughterhouses and butcher shops, capturing the ox that fled and holding it until the discount. In some areas of Rio Grande do Sul it was also known as Dog of Butcher Shop. It was also very used to protect the property and the cattle, functions that carries out with effectiveness and agility until nowadays. Due to the modern handling techniques and, especially, to the recent sanitary norms, its applications as dog cowboy is quite restricted. The Campeiro Bulldog has been used for personal and territorial protection in urban centers, because its effectiveness, faithful, besides its patience with children. ORIGINS At least two theories about its origiun are known. The first one is accepted by the most creators and it is had as official one, says that the Campeiro Bulldog has its origin in Bulldogs that came to Brazil brought by the European immigrants since the XVII century. , it also says that the Campeiro Bulldog has as its ancestral the Old type English Bulldog, that sufferred some modifications in its work in the field. The second theory – is believed by a few creators as Mr. Jutay Medeiros for example - it seems us a more reasonable one. It says that summarizing the Campeiro Bulldog as a simply descendant of the Old English Bulldogs, it would be the same to believe that none of the people who colonized the south of Brazil influenced with their dogs the construction of our breed. When the cycle of European colonization in the Brazilian south began (centuries XVIII and XIX), Italian, Polish, German and Spanish brought their way of life to Brazil. .At this time in Europe, the ascension of dogs “bulldog”, as a type was seen and not as a breed. Many of those dogs ‘bulldog ' were crossed in England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France, with the "strongest" races of the area, in order to obtain dogs with characteristics that assisted to the "sports" of the time, like Alano (of Spain), Bulldog (Grã-Britain) and Bullenbeisser (Europa Central, mainly Germany and Poland). We believe that the old English bulldog has a small participation in the formation of the Campeiro Bulldog. According to this theory, the dogs that have participated would be Bullenbeisser (coming with the Germans and Polish, besides others of central Europe), Alano and European variations of bulldogs, just as Spanish Bulldog (variation of the English one used in the fights in Spain), Italian Bulldogs (whose copy perhaps more illustrious it is an old descendant called Maltese Bulldog). Because of their work and its results, these dogs were crossed with other famous working dogs of the area (It has created a mixture of the several alaunt types, bullenbeisser and bulldogs) and, later, with dogs from other areas. Besides, the animals that needed better ability in the hunt or in the pasturing were crossed with dogs that possessed those aptitudes (and they were not necessarily bully), It happens today in Australia, for example, where bulldogs are crossed with other heavy dogs to be used in hunting of great animals. In Brazil we have the same example in the west of the Paraná state, where Campeiro Bulldogs are crossed with Veadeiro Pampeano to result in a dog with stronger hunt and footprint. This flexibility created the fame and, paradoxically, has collaborated to the ruin of the breed. And at this point we know Mr. Ralf Bender, that with a systematic and persevering work, has rescued through remaining dogs and studied crossings, our Campeiro Bulldog.
