  • [quote1317410143=tosamama] I am truly amazed at what these dogs can do, how precise they can follow instructions. However, still not my type of dog. I know many of them, and they're bred so high strung, they grate on my nerves. Some are calm enough around the house, but I'm told many have to be locked away as they're just too wired. Also, I've seen a few cases of redirection (with Rotties too), where the handler/owner actually got bitten. [/quote1317410143] I can see this for some dogs from working lines that could be way too intense. But that should not be the norm. My own GSDs for example were the perfect house dogs. They would do precisely what you wanted them to do - at all times. My Shars, not so much; they can inadvertently be quite destructive to property. GSDs that are too wired and even bite their handler may have been completely excluded from family life and only kept for competitions. I knew many dogs that were kept in a crate all day except for when they went to the Schutzhund club twice a week. An intelligent dog will naturally go bananas here. And say what you will, GSDs are super intelligent dogs, no doubt. GSDs ARE my type of dog to a certain degree, but Shars on the other hand are truly my kind - 100%. Even though both breeds are nothing alike. I like em for very different reasons. Just as I like offroad Jeeps and little roadsters, both automobiles, both with very different purpose.
