I'm sure people have tampered with wolves. But just because you see a black wolf doesn't mean someone bred it from a dog. There have always been Timber Wolves of colors other than silver/gray. They come in white, black, even brown. I knew that a long time ago, from reading books and from watching nature shows when I was a kid.
