another intruder ran off

He has earned his keep many times over in my book

Hear hear.. I fully agree. That is what he is supposed to do and he is doing his job very well at such a very young age.  Imagine when he matures - You will not have intruders knocking in your windows or doors. Maybe you should get another one to give him backup in case things get really bad.

    • Anubis has done it again! We went out to eat today at a local Chinese restaurant and put Anubis in our bedroom while we were out to keep him out of the kitchen trash (his favorite vice). We came home and the bedroom door had been busted through and he was out roaming the house and seemed very excited. Our oldest daughter informed us that the window in the living room was busted. When we investigated, my first observation was that the glass had been broken INWARDS. We called the police and filed a report but nothing was missing. The officer said that somebody had tried breaking in through the window but were scared off by the sight of a very large, very angry dog (with a very deep and guttural bark and growl) breaking through a latched door to get at them.  At 8 months old, this dog has already proven himself to be an outstanding protector not once but twice. I have seen him army crawl towards a toddler that he wanted to love on so as to avoid scaring them with his size. He has earned his keep many times over in my book. I've heard other "dog people" knock him because of the fact that he is a hybrid but all I have to say is that at the end of the day, I trust him beyond any dog I've ever met and in this world, that's hard to come by.

        • I actually discovered another breed through this site that I have considered in looking for a female companion for Anubis. The Price boar beisser seems like a good guardian type breed. What are your thoughts?

          • Kudos to Anubis!!!  My God, where do you live that you have had so many instances of someone trying to break in?!?! LOL!

              • We think that it's either one individual or a small group of individuals that live in the neighborhood behind us. All of our neighbors are nice people and it's a nice little town but one or two bad eggs is enough to put the other 99% on edge. That's why we got Anubis, with me working nights I didn't like having to leave the wife and the girls at home.

                • Oh gotcha, I totally get it.  Good thing you got Anubis on the job!!!

We haven't had any break-ins in our home (knock on wood) but we are getting a new puppy in 10 days & one of his main jobs will be guarding our home too.  We already have 3 dogs, they make good watch dogs but we wanted a little more at this point from our next dog (plus, 2 of my dogs are already quite old - one is 13 & the other is 10).  I plan on doing either French Ring or Schutzhund, I have clubs local to me & I hope they find my dog suitable.  I also plan on competing in Agility & Rally since I am a member of my local obedience club.

                    • Nice! What breed is the new pup?

                      • OMG, I'm so excited too!  I'm importing my pup from Brazil, he is a Cimarron Uruguayo.  Very rustic breed of dog & what I mean by that is that they are literally only a step up from feral.  The history of these dogs is fascinating!
