Badger Encounter

Its a mastiff, they are naturally confident and don't scare easily, add to that badgers are deceptively hardy little so and so's and I wouldn't get too worried about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c81bcjyfn6U&feature=related Check that video out, Honey Badgers are the most fearless animals in the world, there is even a small cut to of one chasing off a leopard and fighting a cobra... they are extremely tough, and don't back down or give up from anything. Now the honey badger is pretty special they are immune to cobra poison and have a few other tricks up there sleeves, but all badgers are pretty well in the same category minus the specialties these little suckers have on their side.

When she saw the badger she quickened up the pace and hit it hard from behind with a bite to the back of the neck. It was windy and raining so her approach was not heard by the badger. She held the badger in her mouth, picked it up and seemed to slam it back down on its ass. All the while Juno remained quiet but the bagder growled and snarled. After a few seconds the badger go free and ran. Juno chased after it and tried to put another bite on the badgers neck but this time the badger turned an placed a bite on her above the right eye. This stopped Juno from trying to bite the neck again. For the rest of the chase she just nipped and bit at the rump and back legs. As I have no experience hunting with dogs I would like to know is it natural for a mastiff type dog to go straight in and bite without sizeing up its quarry ? Juno is a 17 month old DDB bitch who enjoys hunting for and chasing rabbits and the odd fox. This is the first time she has got her teeth into anything and I'm curious to know if she is showing natural behaviour. Danny
