How old is the pup?

My cane corso just got diagnosed with demodectic mange. The treatment recommended is a series of 3 dips, oral antibiotics, and medicated shampooing. He also recommended neutering the pup to make sure it does not spread to future generations. Have any of you had experience with this? Are there other treatment options? Should the breeder have known about the condition when I bought the dog? -

There is a DIRECT CORRELATION to Demodectic Mange & highly inbred dogs because of WEAKENED IMMUNE systems ....NO the dog SHOULD NOT be used in ANY breeding program....This is how we have " CURED " it in the past....Ivomec both orally & the drench , antibiotic injections & time, takes up to 6 months to " Cure " because this about controlling the mange mites....Make sure to use hot water when you drench the dog to open the pores so as to kill the mites, also let the dog to air dry, DO NOT , towel dry ...This keeps the Ivomec on the skin.... -

Drago is about 10 months now. The vet recommended Amitraz (I think). He wants to dip him 3 times every 10-14 days and recheck. -

I appreciate the good information. Of all the dogs I have had, I have never seen mange - of any kind. Unfortunately he has it all over. I think the heat has been a factor in it. It has been over 90 for 24 days so far. The vet said the same thing about the litter mates. He said he bet they all looked the same way. I e-mailed her to tell her about the diagnosis, but I have not received a reply. -

I still haven't received any response from the breeder (sent message Monday). I am looking for my contract. I think it said something about genetic defects in the first 2 years. Would this condition be covered under a normal agreement? -

I don't know much about this condition. The vet said that neutering was recommended since it is passed to future generations. I assumed that meant it was genetic. My intent is to re-coup some of my vet bills for treatment and neutering. I had planned to raise him and make him available for stud, but I can’t (won’t) do that now. The estimate for the treatment is about $400. I don’t know how much it will cost to neuter a 100 lb. dog. -

Go to TSC & the medication & drench will cost you about 125 $ ... All it takes is a little leg work & common sense

Interesting photos. How does the Bullmastiff perform in the Brazilian heat? I have friends in Recife where it's 80s year round and very few Molossers survive there. I do know that some Brazilian Police like the Tropa de Elite take pride...
