• Nice! Dogs haveing a great time, and the new camera is cool! like the last pic with the slight line hiding in the bushes!
• thanks, haha, if you look closely, the 4th pic down in my 1st post, all 3 legs are off the ground, there is only 1 foot on that rock. Its hard to "catch" the action though because although my cam takes moving shots, there is still quite a bit of delay from the time i press the button to the time it snaps the shot. and what the hell, heres 3 more [br][link={e_FILE}public/1329597531_18975_FT86634_101_2183.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329597531_18975_FT86634_101_2183_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1329597531_18975_FT86634_101_2196.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329597531_18975_FT86634_101_2196_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1329597531_18975_FT86634_101_2198.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329597531_18975_FT86634_101_2198_.jpg">[/link][br]
• Gotta love the digging shots.
• hey Tonedog, you're WAY past due to pst pics of your boy!!! btw, there was an interesting post on another board regarding bandogs and the crosses that it involves. somebody asked why not use the bull terrier instead of the pit, and every one answered that there is no way it would work. for me, i couldn't help thinking about the bull arab and how great the breed is eventhough the bull terrier was used in the mix.
•
hey Tonedog, you're WAY past due to pst pics of your boy!!!
Did you see the pic and video I posted just the other day? Anyway I'll post them and some others from the same day- Vids- http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f231/gun_bullety/?action=view¤t=video-2012-02-13-10-35-57.mp4 http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f231/gun_bullety/?action=view¤t=video-2012-02-13-11-07-47.mp4 Might be hard to understand what's going on in that second vid (even seem a bit disturbing like he's drowning) but what he's done is try to "fetch" a stick that's attached to a branch that's attached to a whole tree that's underwater. Lol, so he's struggling and struggling swimming trying to pull on it until eventually the stick breaks off. He drops it when he reaches the edge and shakes.
btw, there was an interesting post on another board regarding bandogs and the crosses that it involves. somebody asked why not use the bull terrier instead of the pit, and every one answered that there is no way it would work. for me, i couldn't help thinking about the bull arab and how great the breed is eventhough the bull terrier was used in the mix.
Funny you say that cause a discussion at the moment on a forum I'm at is talking about the "myth" of the ebt being inferior, how it's really not true. Here's some of my posts from it-
I'm so glad ebts finally get the love in the online dog community that they deserve. Back when I first started online I was kind of surprised and offended to see everyone shitting on them as useless ruined show breeds, when I knew even though basically yeah I guess they technically are, they're generally pretty damn far from that in reality. I think they're more consistently serious animals than pitbulls, even if only in their mind and drives. Never ever met an ebt that wasn't as hard as nails and intensely enthusiastic about proving it to anyone or thing that doubted it. I think everyone just had no experience with them and in theory they should be bad, they started as a designer dog pushed by a snake oil salesmen, eventually were outcompeted in the pits, and have since been bred to look funny for the show ring. They should suck, but they just don't. I'm not sure the accepted story is all that true btw, the fact that the fighting "pit" bull-terriers in india and pakistan are ebts, in australia we didn't hear of a pitbull or staffy until the late 80s... it seems to me these are pretty strong clues that ebts weren't immediately unsuccessful, you know it seems for a good portion of the 1800s ebts must have been THE fighting dog in england as well, because that's the one they were taking with them around the world to use in pit fights and bear baits and whatever else. It was evidently outcompeted after a significant reign IMO, and in the very late 1800s maybe even early 1900s.

That's the other one too, africa. I mentioned subcontinental asia and australia, but ebts were THE bullterrier of colonial africa as well. Does anyone see what I mean how this all points to ebts being more than a flash in the pan failed attempt at a fighting dog? They obviously reined as THE bull terrier of choice for "sporting pursuits" for a while in england in order to be the bull terrier they took with them every where. For a significant portion of the 1800s the ebt must have been the dominating "pit" bull terrier, it seems it actually must have outcompeted the staff type, because we know england earlier had a staff type, and that in ireland they still had a staff type, earlier the british had taken a staff type to the americas, etc etc. But the in the 1800s in england it seems the hinks type was being favoured in england (and their extended colonial empire) should a bear need a good biting, or a dog need fighting, or a bull need to be lugged up. Since then they've been outcompeted as the top dog, but I think only from american staff types (apbts) coming back all amped up on american freedom or something, not by the staff types in britain which it seems to me were actually outcompeted by the ebt. I know the accepted story says otherwise, but the actual real clues don't. Why was the ebt the bull terrier that wound up chewing on bears in pakistan and catching scrub cattle in australia and fighting off hyenas and shit in africa? Not a staff type to be seen until the sbt show dog showed up and later the american pitbull terrier?
Regardless, even if ebts were ruined it's also a myth to suggest you can't make great hybrids out of ruined purebreeds. Even english bulldogs could and do contribute to great working hybrids. A lot of people overthink it, have too many preconcieved ideas of what SHOULD work and why in a cross, real hap-hazard trial and error typically proves all their theories wrong.
• Boy looks great!I missed the posts from last week since my home computer is not working at the moment. Anyway, I'm with you when it comes to myths people love to have. Pretty sure one could create great hybrids with many breeds other than pit i.e. ca de bou, alano espanol, cao de fila, etc...
• When it comes to hybrids I don't think there's much sense in worrying about breeds, should think more in terms like bullbreeds, mastiffs, terriers, sighthounds, etc, those are the "ingredients" being worked with, breeds are just where they're extracted from.
• [quote1329611138=Castanha] hey Tonedog, you're WAY past due to pst pics of your boy!!! btw, there was an interesting post on another board regarding bandogs and the crosses that it involves. somebody asked why not use the bull terrier instead of the pit, and every one answered that there is no way it would work. for me, i couldn't help thinking about the bull arab and how great the breed is eventhough the bull terrier was used in the mix. [/quote1329611138] bull terrier was used in the dogo also. and from what I gathered on lee's forum regarding wider nasal ridges, and the stop etc. on the bull terrier. It seems to me a bull terrier cross would be good for bite strength. hey tonedog, besides the Great Dane, I sometimes think of crossing my male with a weimaraner, it would give leg, and a good nose, and also keep the blue color.
•
bull terrier was used in the dogo also.
Good point. Every where it seems the EBT was THE bull terrier that was being put to work, EXCEPT for the united states who were working away on their own strain. Only very recently like in the 1980s even 90s did the apbt start replacing the ebt as the working bull terrier around the world. I mean this is what all signs point to, it's just not what the breed encyclopedias say.
hey tonedog, besides the Great Dane, I sometimes think of crossing my male with a weimaraner, it would give leg, and a good nose, and also keep the blue color.
Would offer a lot, generally pretty smart dogs, versatile hunters in their own right and a bit of bull is just what they need to harden them up. I'd like such a cross a lot I think. Would make a more versatile and suitable dog for outdoor wilderness shenanigans than a dane x IMO, although that could be good too, I just think the weim cross would be more enthusiastic and energetic and a good deal brighter. You'd be looking at more of a curr type as opposed to a bandog type, actually a fair bit like me and castanha's dogs.
• yeah, thats pretty much what i was thinking, would make a good mix for hunting. perhaps mix rambo with a greyhound, producing a lurcher. add in some weimaraner, and you now have a lurcher with a nose.
• Gh/weim x rambo. American bull arab. 8o|
• went hiking again this morning and snapped a few more. 2nd to last pic i think is the best action/in motion shot I have gotten so far. looks much better and you can see the detail if you click it for full view. • i wish that jumping shot woulda came out better!
• not easy to catch them jumping, got to be lucky a i guess.
• I know all too well how hard jumping shots are, if I had bothered uploading them I could show you a million pics of dogs about to jump or dogs that just landed, lol. I think that second shot down is awesome, and you're right your dog has gotten leaner, looking good.
• I am gearing up for a 14 miles hike on Monday will take lots of pics, and my buddy will video tape. Can't wait to hit this trail, one of my favorite trail ever. Destroyed at 80% from fires and floods 3 years ago, very challenging with many parts of it missing. We'll be out there for about 8 hours!
• is there water on the way? how much water will you bring? when I walk my dogs off leash they are real excited and run around alot and wear themselves out pretty quickly. we burn through water. how is your dog with water?
• ...yes, that trail has water 80% off the way. sometimes the dogs need to swim to cross the stream/river. after serious rain, the water is huge there. we have to cross this river about 15 times one way by jumping from rock to rock. my girl loves water, she has webbed feet so we're good. my girl also gets really excited, but she is used to hike off leash, so she is pretty good at pacing herself from the start. btw, like the look of your dogs better when lean and muscles are showing. they will also do much better on hikes when lean, and will remain healthier longer that way too. did you set a goal for yourself as to how many pounds you want them to be at? right now, my girl is about 22/23 inches at the shoulder and about 65lbs. i am guessing in 8 months from now when she reaches 2 years of age, she will be at 70lbs and that's perfect for me.
• Went on a 5 mile this morning with the wife and dogs my pictures suck because they were done with my phone though :(

• Nice and green, not like here in LA where it's dry like crazy.
• i just thought i would try and have him lose some weight until he gets a little leaner. my dogs put on weight and lose weight pretty quickly, that was about 2 weeks or so of dieting. about 2 years ago i had the a whole month off with nothing to do. and my wife was out of the country for a month. it was pretty awesome.....lol I was able to take my dogs on all day hikes everyday, by the end of the month they had adjusted really good, increased stamina etc. It seems to me dogs adjust much quicker then humans, be it gaining muscle, losing weight, increasing stamina, etc. as far as water goes, im glad to hear that, i thought my dogs were the only ones. they are used to walking off leash on our hikes and we regularly hike the same area but the second i let them off the leash they goes nuts and just run around and wear themselves out quickly. although im sure their bully build and shorter snouts have something to do with it as well. my larger male has much more stamina then my smaller mostly white face male, and the mostly white face male has a much shorter muzzle than my larger one as well so go figure. tiger thanks for sharing the pics, dogs look like they had fun. wish more ppl shared their dog adventurer
