Comment to Information about the TM
-
Hello all, I have newly registered at this site and found this to be an invaluable resource of information on dogs.Being an ardent dog lover, I think this site is a great boon for dog lovers like me all over the globe. In particular I have a huge fascination for molossers and presently own a Do Khyi or the Bhotia dog, a variant of the " Tibetan Mastiff" which means that it has TM genes in it.For me its been a really pleasurable journey with it's myriad ups and downs and owning a TM poses a challenge for those willing to take it.Particularly in terms of temperament and health issues.I must admit that it is gaurd dog sans compare in the dog world although every breed has its own unique differentiation points.Having owned a Do khyi, I find it quite difficult to own any other breed as every dog lover would agree with me because of its idiosyncrasies. Now this brings me to ask some specific information and points as I would like to start my research well ahead of time before making a final investment on this wonderful breed. Also I take this opportunity to inform potential TM investors to please thoroughly research this breed and the breeder before making the investment for the sake of the breed. I am looking for the true Tibetan mastiffs namely the ones bred in Taiwan and China and not the light shepherd ones found in the US.( the Do Khyi or atleast what most people call it seems to be the small in size as compared to the " chinese/taiwanese" giants. It seems to me that the true molossers are bred only in China and Tibet. Some questions emerge: 1) How much do these True TMs cost approximately in US dollars?( specifically puppies assuming the breeder also shows the parents) 2) How does one research a reliable and scientific breeder? I have heard about the Zangaounion kennels and they seem to have amazing dogs. Also the link provided by Gary Sicard for authentic TMs are amazing. 3) Do these breeders in China have any tie ups with people in the US through which one could procure them/ or will one have to make a trip to Taiwan and China? 4) Can anyone provide more information about teh Dolo bloodlines and teh different bloodlines available for the True TM? ( in particular Im talking about the dog Wei li of the Wilderness Tibetan Mastiff families Kennel--he is huge!) 5) Will the breeders tend to rip one off because one is from the west?( I am assuming these are responsible and ethical breeders) I am asking all of the above because the first time I got my Do Khyi, the guy who sold me the pup was a middleman and I did not do my research thoroughly. I have been through the entire journey of the dog maturing lately, common behavorial problems, health issues and found it to be a pleasurable challenge. This has made me a lot more wiser in terms of ownership responsibility and the like. This time I want to ensure I devote enough time to research the breed before I invest in a majestic pup. If someone shares with me the enthusiasm for this mysterious breed, please do respond to my queries. :) Once again, thank you for your time and patience.I would like to extend a sincere and warm thanks to the moderator and the creators of this wonderful site.Keep up the good work. :P
