I think it could be useful against a wolf that doesnt want an exhausting fight even when food is on the line. If the pit bull can strike first and battle the wolf until it desides the fight is not worth it then I would call that a victory for the dog. A true game dog will battle until it is physically incapable. The key is escaping any severe damage in doing so :) .
