Comment to 'Sarplaninacs and invisible fences?'
  • 4iso, First of all my comments were made in a humorous way - that's what the "" was supposed to indicate. Nevertheless, my dogs did dig holes. I didn't consider the "reasons" worthwhile sharing, but since it seems you already drew your own conclusions, I will gladly explain. When we take our dogs for a walk through the forest (several times a day), we tend to let them out through the backyard gate. This is easier and less of a mess than through the house. My dogs were so excited sometimes that (especially when they were younger and more inpatient) they tried to get out on their own. They felt a fence couldn't hold them back. In a way, they were trying to get to us and not away from us. Now that they are older and know the routine (and my disliking of digging), this part stopped. They still bark "under" the fence when strangers come too close to the property. My older Shar once crashed through the wooden part of our fence. He didn't try to escape either, but was challenged by another big dog on the outside. We caught him just before any further damage was done. However, this illustrates why I prefer iron fences lately. I hope this additional explanation shows you that my dogs do not tend to escape from our property at all. As I said earlier, initially I didn't consider this explanation necessary as my intentions were merely to support aleksa's statement with a funny comment. Furthermore, I hope that my additional explanation now will help to avoid making premature assumptions about other users in the first place ;-)[blockquote]it leads to incorrect conclusions.[/blockquote] Dito! Dan
