That is crazy. There must be some very cool reason to fancy up the collar like that.  I am a minimalist and so I look at what real working dogs wear. Take military and police dogs for instance - on the job day and night in rough conditions and they ware a leather collar without the fancy stuff.. That is the way I would go.
