Comment to 'Importing a Dog From South America'
  • Hi Everyone!

I know there are many here that have imported dogs, so I was looking for some general tips & best practices.  I already looked up the rules (http://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs.html) and it's looking like I will have to wait until my puppy is 4 months old & has had their rabies shots at 12 weeks.  I will also need to have a vet certificate that says the puppy is free of screwworms as well.  The breed I am looking at is a Cimarron Uruguayo, I found a breeder in Uruguay that is willing to work with me.  This particular breeder has exported to Europe before, so they at least have some experience is shipping pups internationally.

So my question to you fine people is, what advice & best practices can you give me?  Would you recommend doing an overnight flight so that the puppy is less stressed?  So  what tips do you have for me to make this as less stressful as I can for this puppy?

Wish me luck!!  The litter isn't planned until next year in late 2017, so a lot can happen between now & then.  Hopefully it will all work out! :-)
