Importing a Dog From South America
I have imported several dogs from as far away as Lithuania and Serbia and there has been no issues with them arriving safely. Airlines are very concerned with your dogs safety as they understand the emotional connection with the new pup. Don't worry about the flight as the pup should do well.

Hi Everyone!
I know there are many here that have imported dogs, so I was looking for some general tips & best practices. I already looked up the rules (http://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs.html) and it's looking like I will have to wait until my puppy is 4 months old & has had their rabies shots at 12 weeks. I will also need to have a vet certificate that says the puppy is free of screwworms as well. The breed I am looking at is a Cimarron Uruguayo, I found a breeder in Uruguay that is willing to work with me. This particular breeder has exported to Europe before, so they at least have some experience is shipping pups internationally.
So my question to you fine people is, what advice & best practices can you give me? Would you recommend doing an overnight flight so that the puppy is less stressed? So what tips do you have for me to make this as less stressful as I can for this puppy?
Wish me luck!! The litter isn't planned until next year in late 2017, so a lot can happen between now & then. Hopefully it will all work out! :-)

A Cimarrón Uruguayo, nice choice, congrats. I have never had one but I like them. Rustic dogs.
I would not be worried about the travel, they can endure it. I live in South America (Perú) and have imported pups from USA, Europe and Asia, and have had no problem at all.
Good luck!!

Hi Hugo!
Thanks for your reply! You made me feel better knowing that your dogs did just fine. I'm really excited, I have admired Cimarrones for a while now!

I wish you the best on getting you new pup.
I hadn't heard of this breed. I began to look them up. As far as shipping if there is a nonstop flight I would go that route. Not so much that it is less stressful. But because I would be excited to get my pup. It is believed that flying can be stressful for a pup. it is understandable. But I don't believe it would matter that much to the pup if it is a nonstop flight or not. It will just want to be in the company of people and not in a crate. It want to run free, eat and play. It's a pup.
Those are just my thoughts.

Well, I got a puppy coming my way sooner than what I thought! The breeder I have been communicating with has a litter on the ground & I jumped on it. I attached 2 pics, he is the darker puppy with brindling. I am so excited, he'll come home in early September!!

Awesome!!
Also, if you have the picture on another website you can copy the source and upload the picture. Then it will be easier to view. We can see them without them being a separate attachment that has to be opened.

I'm posting from my cell phone & was having a heck of a tike trying to paste the link to the pic. Lol! So I attached them because I just had to show you guys! :-)

I understand. I've done it many time myself. But I like to make it easier for others to view. Some might not click on the link. So I've learned to post the picture on another website be it my website or pinterest or something else then copy the image location to post my picture here. Hopefully in the near future they will make it easier to post a picture without having to have the picture on a different website first in order to post in in the forum.

Now, that I am at a real computer...here is a link to the litter from the breeder's website: http://cimarronuruguayo.com.br/camadatabarexanitaus.html
My little guy is featured in some of those pics, he is the darkest puppy in the litter & has some brindling on his legs. I got a feeling he is going to turn out like his sire with his markings. I plan on doing Rally, Agility, & Nose Work with this guy! Maybe some weight pull too! :-)
Oh & I made a mistake in my original post...this breeder is in Brazil. But he is very experienced in shipping overseas & uses a broker that accompanies the puppy on their flight. So if there are any stops, this agent ensures that the puppy makes its flight & then they meet me at my local airport so I can pick my puppy up. This whole process costs about as much as the dog itself, but I feel comfortable about it. :-)

Congrats again on the new pup. Please keep me updated on its progress. I'd love to hear about it and see some videos of it doing rally, nose work, etc.
I do the same things with my presa canarios.

I will most certainly keep you all updated on this puppy's progress. I may reach out to you & compare notes about Presas & Cimarrones too! :-) I am extremely excited, September can't get here soon enough!
