In my opinion, no matter, what causes lack of any evidence of this type of "fight testing' of LGDs - Russian conquest of Central Asia in 18-19 centuries, Communist rule in 20 century, general lack of interest in dogs in muslim countries, or just , as I think, absence of such "testing" itself. Having no evidence, we should withhold speculations, especially in such controvercial topic. We all know, that LGD fights are traditional for some public events in some regions of the world.
