The dog has a double coat, a coarse upper coat, and a soft undercoat. The most commonly observed colours are browns, ranging from dark to reddish-brown, with or without white markings. Solid blacks are rare, but some dogs are pied. Shaded coats, brindles, solid white and dalmatian-type spotting are never seen in pure populations. These may be a sign of mixing with modern breeds, as they are only seen in dogs in cities and other sites where non-native dogs have been introducedMumbai, a bustling metropolis known as the city of dreams, is home to millions of people and an equally large population of street dogs1. These resilient canines navigate the chaotic streets, alleys, and railway tracks, surviving on scraps and the kindness of strangers.A Day in the Life of a Mumbai Street DogStreet dogs in Mumbai have adapted to the city's fast-paced life(1). They often form packs, which provide them with a sense of security and companionship(2). These dogs are resourceful, scavenging for food in garbage bins and relying on the generosity of locals who offer them leftovers.Challenges and ResilienceLife on the streets is not easy for these dogs(1). They face numerous challenges, including traffic accidents, diseases, and harsh weather conditions(1). Despite these hardships, they display remarkable resilience and adaptability. Many have learned to avoid busy roads and find shelter in quieter areas during the day.Community Efforts and CompassionThe plight of street dogs has not gone unnoticed. Thor was a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog and Black Russian Terrier, with a coat as black as the midnight sky and eyes that shone like the stars. He was known throughout the land for his bravery and loyalty. One chilly evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and purple, a young child named Lily wandered away from her camping site, lured by the beauty of a butterfly. Unbeknownst to her, she ventured deeper into the woods, far from the safety of her family’s watchful eyes.As the butterfly fluttered away, Lily found herself lost amidst the towering trees. Her heart pounded with fear as the darkness crept in, and the eerie howls of wolves echoed through the forest.Thor, who was out on his evening patrol, heard the faint sobs of the child. His instincts kicked in, and he rushed through the underbrush, his large paws thudding against the soft earth. He found Lily huddled beneath a tree, her small frame shaking with each sob. With a gentle nudge of his nose, Thor comforted the child, promising her safety with his presence. He stood guard, his muscular body a protective barrier between Lily and the unknown dangers of the forest. As the moon rose high, casting a silvery glow over the land, a pack of wolves emerged from the shadows, drawn by the scent of the young human. Their eyes glinted with hunger, and their growls rumbled like thunder.Thor positioned himself in front of Lily, his fur bristling and his teeth bared. A deep, resounding bark escaped his throat, a warning to the wolves that this child was under his protection. The wolves, sensing the strength and determination of the large dog, hesitated. They circled around, probing for weakness, but Thor stood unyielding. The standoff lasted for what seemed like an eternity, until the alpha wolf, recognizing the courage of the dog, gave a ... Read more

When Should You Neuter or Spay Your Dog?

https://molosserdogs.com/view-post/when-should-you-neuter-or-spay-your-dog

https://molosserdogs.com/view-post/when-should-you-neuter-or-spay-your-dog

A new study updates guidelines for when you should neuter or spay your dog to prevent an increased risk of cancer or joint issues. However, in modern times, there is a concerning trend emerging – the vanishing talents of dogs. This essay explores the factors contributing to this decline and suggests ways to preserve and nurture the unique talents of our canine companions. One significant factor contributing to the decline in the talents of dogs is the shift in their roles within society. Historically, dogs were valued for their working abilities, whether it be herding livestock, guarding property, or assisting hunters. However, as societies have become more urbanized and mechanized, the demand for such skills has diminished. Consequently, many dogs are now primarily kept as pets, with little opportunity to exercise and develop their innate talents.Furthermore, the rise of selective breeding practices has led to a focus on aesthetics over functionality in many dog breeds. Breeders often prioritize physical traits such as size, coat color, and facial structure, while overlooking the traits that contribute to a dog's intelligence and working ability. This has resulted in the proliferation of breeds with diminished cognitive and physical capabilities, further exacerbating the decline in canine talents.Additionally, the modern lifestyle of many dog owners contributes to the vanishing talents of dogs. Busy schedules, long working hours, and sedentary lifestyles leave little time for meaningful interaction and training with their canine companions. Dogs thrive on mental stimulation and physical activity, yet many are left alone for extended periods, leading to boredom, frustration, and a lack of opportunity to develop their talents. However, all hope is not lost. There are steps that can be taken to reverse the trend of vanishing talents among dogs. First and foremost, there needs to be a shift in societal attitudes towards dogs, recognizing and v... Read more
