  • Gary, To follow up on your last post. What you are describing about knowledge and being able to separate fact from fiction is exactly the situation that I ran into when I began to learn about the Sarplaninac after seeing this majestic dog after my fisrt trip to Serbia back in 2002. I was afforded the opportunity to talk to many people both in Serbia and North America who presented to me as very kowledgeable about this breed. What was very disturbing to me was that almost everything that I heard about the breed from some sources was entirely contradicted by others. So you can imagine what that kind of conflicting information must do to people who are not very knowledgeable about dogs to begin with. I think the recent picture I posted of my Sarplaninac and the range of comments that followed illustrates your point very well. Ironically that is one of he main reasons why I put a photo of him up again. I find the same problems with people, and I have been guilty of this myself, emphatically giving advice about dog training and behavior and health and nutrition among other things as if it is gospel when in fact there are no absolutes to any of this. Because of this in the limited circumstances that I will answer somebody's question, I try to make sure that I always clarify something that I write or say that it is based on my experience and try to back it up with a reasonable explanation why I do or do not do something so it at least gives somebody a different perspective and help them have differing perspectives to they can evaluate all of the information they receive and then be able to make a rational decision for themselves. Again, great post and very insightful.
