American Tunnel Terrier

This phenomenal little ratter is said to be a result of crossing the French Bulldog with the Boston Terrier, but it is highly unlikely that these were the only breeds used in its creation. Jack Russell Terriers, Fox Terriers and Rat Terriers have reportedly contributed greatly to the immense prey-drive and tenacity of the American Tunnel Terrier. Some Staffordshire Bull Terrier influence has been suggested as well, but it is difficult to trace. An excelent vermin-killer, this energetic, healthy and rugged breed is also very smart, playful and loving of children, making a good family pet.

Early socialization will keep its tendency to chase small animals and confront other dogs under control, although this behavior is not as big of a problem with the Tunnel Terrier as it is with most other working terrier breeds. The chest is deep and the backline is straight. Natural "bat" ears are prefered, but can be cropped for work.

The coat is short, thick and flat, accepted in all colours, except uniform black or blue. Average height is around 15 inches.
