Benson Mastiff
This working dog was developed by Stewart "Mad Dog" Benson by crossing the American Bulldog with the Tibetan Mastiff, supposedly as a re-creation of a Tibetan Bulldog breed. However, it has been suggested that this was actually an accidental breeding that gave interesting results, inspiring Benson to develop his own strain of large bulldogges. Satisfied with the protection abilities of his dogs, Benson decided to introduce some Pit Bull Terrier blood in order to improve agility and prey-drive for cattle control and large game hunting use.
The type was established fairly quickly and the breed Standard is in the works. The Benson Bulldogge is a massive and powerful mastiff, bred for tenacity and stamina. Extremely dog-aggressive, this mastiff needs proper socialization and responsible handling. Loyal and trainable, it makes an amenable companion, but is best suited for working homes. The tail is docked for work.
The medium-length coat is thick and flat, accepted in all colours. Size can vary greatly, from 24 inches to 30 inches at the withers.
