German Bandogge

This breed is a re-creation of the larger type of old German Bullenbeissers and Bandogges, developed from working Great Danes crossed with Boxers, Rottweilers, Neapolitan Mastiffs, Dobermanns, and Bullterriers. The German Bandogge is bred mainly for protection duties, but can reportedly also excel as a hunting dog and Weight-Pull contestant. Lighter and taller than most Bandogs, this impressive breed is very agile, powerful and athletic.

The rare Deutsche Bandogge makes a good family dog, but it needs early socialization, due to its confrontational nature with other dogs. Suspicious of strangers and very territorial, this mighty Molosser is a serious and dedicated watchdog.

The body is well muscled, with broad shoulders, a deep chest, and a powerful neck. The head is reminiscent of early Great Danes but slightly wider. The ears are left unaltered, while the tails are sometimes docked. The coat is short and thick, preferred in brindle colorings, but also common in shades of fawn, red, brown, blue, black and black-n-tan, with or without white markings.

Average height is around 29 inches.
