King Shepherd

The King Shepherd was developed in the 1990's by crossing Shiloh Shepherds with the American and European bloodlines of German Shepherd Dogs, as well as the Great Pyrenees, American Akita and the Alaskan Malamute. The breed was created by David Turkheimer and Shelley Watts-Cross as an alternative to both the GSD and the Shiloh Shepherd and the official King Shepherd Club was formed in 1995.

Massive, powerful and courageous, King Shepherds are said to be more than capable property guardians. They're reportedly easy to train and get along with children, making the breed a good family pet and urban companion.

The King Shepherd comes in two main coat types, the straight/coarse and the wavy/long, both of which are very dense and weatherproof. There is a great variety of colours accepted, but most dogs have common GSD colourings. Average height is around 28 inches.
