Polish Lowland Sheepdog

The Polish Lowland Sheepdog was developed in the 1500's from various bearded herders of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. It is believed to be an ancestor of many Western breeds, in particular the Bearded Collie of Scotland, the Bobtail of England and the Schapendoes of Holland. Used as a livestock herder and guardian in the plains of Poland for centuries, the Owczarek Nizinny almost became extinct during the 2nd World War. Fortunately, dedicated breeders managed to save the Polish Lowland Sheepdog and it once again established itself as a popular worker, with the addition of becoming a show dog and familiy companion.

Tireless, resilient and intelligent, the Polski Owczarek Nizinny is an active and playful breed, needing a fair ammount of excercise and training.

The coat is long, dense and wavy, accepted in any colour. Average height is around 19 inches.
