He entered a farm and the police shot him, it's not about sport hunting.
The second was shot down in 1935 in Flint, Michigan: Even after being gutted, he weighed 82 pounds. Height 97.5 cm, nose-tail length 237.5 cm.
the story about the maximum size of wolves - here is part of the documentation from the University of Caen, prof. Moriceau, relating to the 100-pound female wolf shot down in Mayenne, France, in 1886.
  • Yes, God made them to get large to purge out varmints - yet live stock killing paints a bulls eye on wolves.

    • I can´t believe how large were those wolves in the lower 48!!! I know Flint and there´s a lot of game in those fields...!  38.4 inches height at the shoulders! like the McKenzie river Wolves!

      • Wow!! They were huge. I wouldn’t want to run up on one of them.

          • Ivan H Plauchu ,

Thank you for posting this photo and the link to Lucius' story. I am a retired Naval Officer also and love Naval history.  During the time that Lucius served the men onboard those Navy ships were strong.  We have a different crop of sailors today and I am not sure we could win another shooting war at sea with the Millennials we have serving today.

Thank you for finding and sharing that story about Lucius and its great to see him with his Bulldog.

                  • Yep! The CDAE in Spain, is promoting the true working Alano, are very meticulous with the character and behavior of the working Alano capabilities,

                    • Many people are working with the Spanish Dogge, which is taken from the dogge type dogs from the Alano Litters, the Villano de las Encartaciones, was the cross between the Chato (Spanish bulldog) with villanos shepherd dogs, so, the recovery from the Alano, was created with this dogs and southern working alanos found in the Spanish Bulls ranchs, and some bitches in Extremadura, and Nieve (snow) a white dogo argentino.

                      • Ivan H Plauchu thank you for that explanation. The recreation/preservation of any breed is a serious undertaking and I wish the breeders the greatest success. The Alano Espanol is a powerful molosser and well worthy of recovery.

In a general note - I do not spend time on FaceBook hence why I keep paying in money and time for this site. I do have an account on FB but only use it for the login credentials on here if someone wants to login with FB. I am trying to keep this site about serious dog enthusiasts and the Molossers.

I am happy you are here and posting such wonderful and historic information.

                        Thank you!

                              • Actually - I am not surprised they had dogs that look like the Spanish Mastiff.  They were colonized by Spain after all.
