My dog licks a lot. I don't think it's a big problem because I think [link=http://www.trainpetdog.com/Bernese-Mountain-Dog/about-bernese-mountain-dog.html]berners[/link] naturally licks a lot to show their affection.

    • one of my dogs, my female dog, the indoor spoiled one licks me way too much, she licks me like shes grooming me and if i dont stop her shell sit there and lick me for like 20 minutes. its seriously like she is trying to groom me. anyone know whats up with this? i was doing some searching online and have found the results that it is: a sign of affection and also a sign of submission. I just though its kind of weird, my other dogs will lick me but not to this extent.
      • Licking can be behavioral. Some dogs tend to go into a "trance" while licking in a slow repetitive manner. Does she also lick herself? Maybe her feet or groin?
        • My dog does the same thing, it's unbearable sometimes. He doesn't like his groin or feet as much. What can this be Betsy ?
          • Depends. Some dogs groom and fall into a behavioral type habit. Also, some dogs that are lickers have underlying, unresolved allergies; some have pinched nerves and will obsessively lick as a response. Some dogs just can't control their licker. Submissive licking is much different and displays differently. When licking unwanted happens, you can make a noise and stand up and walk away.
            • IN my opinion is submissive licking in my case, If i go to pet my dog he will lick and lick and lick. If I make eye contact and he is laying down he will get up start waggling his tail and try to lick me so more. There are other times when he will walk by and try to sneak a licking lol He also wants to lick the heck out of my baby, and with strangers he does the same thing he just wants to sit there and lick them like they are made out of ice cream. He however, doesnt do that with other dogs sometimes my cat's butts but that's about it.
