      • Nice, reminds me of the Alano Espanol.
        • I cant wait to get mine :)
          • The first dog looks nothing like the ones in the book. Same breed??
            • no...the dogs in the book are alano espanol
              • Spanish Alanos are not that big.
                • the alanos look to me like the mexican version of presa canarios....lol
                  • I was suppose to get an Alano Espanol, but it didn't work out for various reasons. I now realize that the girl I got is basically an all American version of the Alano, and I am not complaining :)

                        • Alanos were developed in Spain, not Mexico.

I met the Alano in person, I spent an afternoon with the owner and his two dogs. They are awesome, super fast, agile and very confident. They weren't mushy like pits, and they were built very streamlined. I have photos I just don't feel comfortable posting them in the forums because a lot of people start debating their make up and I want to stay away from drama.
                                • sooo theres a difference? haha im still very much learning about a lot of different breeds and thanks on the Alano info David

The Alaunts were used in the expedition to America and they basically used them as war dogs. They used these "alanos" as the spaniards called them, to hunt down the natives, hunt and do whatever other job they needed help with. They also, ate the dogs if they ran out of food. Some of these dogs were left over in the different continents that they conquered and became wild and mixed with other breeds. If you want to learn about a very rugged relative to these dogs look up the "CImarron Uruguayo" in my opinion it is one of the most untouched relatives of those dogs. At one point they were domesticated but were set loose by the settlers when they left or did not have use for them and then they started cross breeding within them selves while becoming wild. Slowly but surely these wild ex wardogs started attacking villagers, farmers and they also started eating people's animals. So they started hunting them down to destroy them and then there a bunch of people that started domesticating them and bringing them back to their domesticated version. If I am not mistaken they are the official dog of the Uruguayan Army :)

Plummers creation ? greyhound/bull terrier x bullmastiff
                                      • I was in contact with a guy that has 2 Alano Espanol imprted from Spain's best breeder (over 20 years experience) I was suppose to get a puppy from this 2 dogs, just didn't work out. Love the breed, but need to watch out where you get them from, many are not the "right" type and becomeing commecialized too much. However, when you get a Alano from a real serious breeder, you can be sure these are most amazing dogs ever!
                                        • There are several discussions on the Alano already. There is one at this http://molosserdogs.com/forum-t72986-0.html
