Kyrgyzian Shepherd Dog

This is a very old working breed, closely related to the dogs of Uzbekistan and considered to be a variant of the Central Asian Ovcharka. Like its cousins, the Kyrgyzian Shepherd Dog is primarily a livestock guardian, but is also used as an intimidating property watchdog and a valued fighter in popular local tournaments in its homeland. More than willing and able to protect its sheep, goats and cattle from any potential predators, this powerful Molosser is very aggressive and territorial, not suited for the life of a pet in urban environments. The Kyrgyz Shepherd is unfriendly towards other dogs, has very little tolerance for strangers and is best employed as a working protection dog. Deep-chested, squarely built and muscular, this rugged mastiff is an agile and resilient breed. Tail is docked and the ears are usually cropped.

The coat is medium in length, densely undercoated and harsh, commonly seen in white-based colourings with darker markings of various shades, although there are some reddish-brown Sargangik dogs to be found in Kyrgizia as well. Average height is around 28 inches.
