Utchak Sheepdog

Although oftentimes incorrectly listed as one of the parent breeds of the Russo-European Laika, the so-called "Utchak Sheepdog" is most certainly a product of both the imagination and ignorance of western authors. Some sources even offer descriptions of its physical and temperament traits, but the existence of this large and ferocious "breed" is yet to be proven.

After years of traveling and research, neither proof nor any reference to this supposed breed has been found in Russia and its neighboring regions. Various explanations have been offered, from it being extinct to its name being incorrectly translated and so on, but the fact remains that the Utchak Sheepdog doesn't exist, it very likely never existed and it definitely didn't play a role in the development of the modern Russo-European Laika.

If you have any more info on this "breed" and are willing to share your knowledge about it, feel free to contact us.
