JesseP has worked his Alano in PP, but I dont know if he did any dogsports with him. I also know of someone in TX that has started his Alano in tracking. On the Leerburg.com forum a person mention in the misc dog breeds section that they are attempting Schutzhund training with their dog. I attempted contact with the person on the forum, but I have not heard anything back. At this point I have not heard of any Alanos being titled. I work my dogs in obedience, and would like to get a BH for my female, but we do not have a local club and I really did not considering working for titles until she was over a year old. We will see how it all goes. I am anxious to see some of the Alanos receive titles. I dont know if they are as suitable for Schutzhund as a GSD, I mean afterall Schutzhund was pretty much developed for the GSD, so it stands to reason that GSD's would excel in the sport, but I think the Alano could still earn titles in Schutzhund. -

Hi, I just found this site today. I live in Norway and I'm staying in Spain during the winter. I am probably the person someone mentioned here that had been writing on the Leerburg disc. forum. Yes, I started to train my alano female to make an IPO/Sch title on her because the breeder promised me that I would get a FCI pedigree in short time. I am not allowed to train IPO/Schutzhund with her because you need a licence to train IPO in Norway and the dog needs to be registered in the Norwegian kennel club and I can not register her without the FCI pedigree! It is of course very disappointing and I have lost the motivation to train her because if/when the breed gets registered she will probably be too old. But of course we still do some obedience training and I love the breed! In the meantime I have bought a malinois, but would like to get a IPO-title on my alano, if I ever get the chance  Here is a link with some pictures of my "Puma" front page and page 2 http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/alanoespanol.htm -

Does anyone knows any dogo argentino trained in schutzund or defense/personal protection? I mean, dogo qualities are very alike with alano's (both hunting dogs). The good thing about those two breeds is their agility and strenght. They are way more agile that a cc or presa and still have the rusticity. Interesting breeds. -

Few months ago I got in contact with some spanish breeders in order to buy an alano, they asked me between 1200 to 1800 euros. Unfortunately it is a very expensive dog... but a fantastic one! -

Hellow from Madrid, Spain. We are spanish alano breeders under the name CORRICAN, we have the old spanish cattle alano, and we are based our blood lines in these type of dogs, because we think that the cattle dog is in supperior level that the hunting dog. And after more than 20 years breeding, with Alanos de Ponce de León and the cattle men from North Spain, we have get first BH (à don´t know the name in english, it´s the sociability test of the Real Society Canine of Spain RSCE, under the rules of the FCI) of a spanish alano Arcadio del Corrican, and next month, we are going to try first RCI-I (Sh-I, IPO-I) We are trainning with Pedro Luis Gutierrez, Championship of the World USA 2008 in WUSV and he is very happy with the results of our spanish alano, because he thought that the prey dogs are´n so intelligents, that´s the reason we prefer these cattle dogs. Then, excuse me to answer the question 3 years after!!! But, we are working in these line now, after 1000 years the breed began to run behind caws and the result: next month! By now the breed is only reconocided by the FCI in Spain, but if we achive to show the controled and potencial of the breed in these days like security dog, or utility dog, maybe son we can put the Spanish alano in the rest of the world. I think Mr. Rayline is in this foro, I want to say Hellow from Spain, and please say hellow to Mrs. Heather, it´s a pleasure talking with you. Excuse my english. Here with my puppie Ley del Corrican Best regards[br][link={e_FILE}public/1264152883_14741_FT3449_leyseveritos.jpg][img:width=500&height=375]{e_FILE}public/1264152883_14741_FT3449_leyseveritos_.jpg">[/link][br] -

This isn't a put down, if you're offended by what I say, then it's because I've poorly expressed what I mean. So here's my question, a breed like the Alano does farm work seemingly similar to herding. Since herders are more intelligent than Bully breeds (not saying that they're better), does that mean that a dog like the Alano meshes the bully characteristics with superior intelligence? Judging by the amount of responses, it doesn't seem like the Alano is often used in Schutzhound, but that might only mean that owners have directed energy elsewhere. I'm sure there are highly trainable American Bulldogs and EBT's, and sometimes temperament affects things more than intelligence does, but it would be cool if the Alano is a breed that brings many of the better qualities of the Bully breeds to the accessible world of Schutzhound, French Ring, etc. -

Those who have Alano's usually use them for there most intended purpose's, which are cattle and hunting. That plus not many people have Alano's, so the niche to use them in Schuntzhund would be naturally small...allthough I think you are right about them excelling in it.
