Why not take her to the vet a month before a cycle and get a cervical culture?

i recently had a female that lost her puppies before they were born due to a bacterial infection.since then i have been doing some research and found that most proffesional breeders put their bitch on antibiotic before breeding them and if during the pregnancy they suspect anything not going as plan they put the mother on a mild dose of antibiotic. most of them use amoxycilin as it does not have an effect on the puppies.i was planning on doing the same with that particular female next time i breed her. by the way she is actually on antibiotic to clear any infection from the abortion. what do you guys think.any opinion :?: -

I would only medicate a dog or bitch if they have a know problem or your kennel have had issues with virus and bacteria. I am not a fan of overmedicating when there is no need for it. In your case 4mneo's suggestion is the best. -

I have taken my female for a cervical culture every season after the first for obvious reasons the first could not be detected one month before. Not just for breeding purposes but to check the dog is healthy for the upcoming season. Peace of mind. Not all miscarriages are caused by infections and some slight unknown showing on the slide does not always warrant antibiotics. It is best to take your female at least one month before so that the vet when finding anything abnormal can treat that infection before it becomes damaging and then prescribe the correct antibiotic for that particular type of infection. DIY with a broad spetrum antibiotic will not always treat a particular infection and it is best to go to the vet who knows how to treat and with which antibiotic. -

No vet in their right mind will give a dog antibiotics because of this! I recently were in a seminar of bitch fertilisation and pregnancy; and the same question was asked there from one of the attendants. First of all there is no 100% quarantee that this method really works. Heathy dog doesn't need antibiotics!! -

You can also use Canine Reproduction Formula (HT 42d) by Royal Canin. I am not fan of this dog food brand but if there is problems with fertilisation I would give it a dry. -

Most female dogs do have an abnormal culture which is slight due to the changes within the body at that time and most dont warrant antibiotics as it is quite normal. I would like to know what proof you had, to why the dog miscarried and why the infection (if proven) wasnt dealt with straight away after the miscarriage. I see no reason if dealt with that the dog cannot carry a full term pregnancy if this was corrected at the time Good Luck -

Do you have a vet available to do a blood test? A CBC is a good idea. That may give you a clue as to any infection if you can't get a cervical culture done. Certain antibiotics can kill fetuses. They can be still born, or rot inside your bitch, killing her. This is really too much of a risk to just try without consulting a vet.

"Dogs are very intelligent. They understand much more than men choose to give them credit for. Their pride is enormous, and through this feeling they are easily moved. Laughter, when directed against himself, no dog can endure, and the slightest reprimand is always answered by an immediate change of aspect. Rather than have their dignity offended,...
Breeding and genetic modification in dogs raise important ethical questions. Let’s look into some of these considerations:Responsible Breeding Prioritizes Welfare:Ethical breeders prioritize the health and well-being of animals over aesthetics. My wife and I just recently (2 months ago) purchased a 62.5% boerboel, 12.5% kangal, 12.5% dogo argenino, 12.5% great Dane from Andrew Johnston of olympicdogs.net. He is currently 5 months old and 75 lbs as of yesterday before breakfast. He is best of friends with our 10 pound terrier and loves kids. Just wondering if there are any other owners of a...

Interesting photos. How does the Bullmastiff perform in the Brazilian heat? I have friends in Recife where it's 80s year round and very few Molossers survive there. I do know that some Brazilian Police like the Tropa de Elite take pride in their working Filas that look like giant bloodhounds that are used to hunt and sometimes kill fugitives in the jungle.
