    • Hey while i have been here for years i have never really posted so i thought i would start with a fairly innocuous thread.Basically its breeds you have owned in your lifetime. in my somewhat short life we have owned 1 irish terrier 1 airedale terrier 1 english springer spaniel and most recently and the dog i still have now is a boxer.I can give some descriptions on the ins and outs on each breed if people are interested but some were owned while i was quite young so it will be from memory but i thought this could be interesting to find where people started and where they are at now dog-wise :) so let the discussion/reminiscing commence

IF you remember, LOL
                • hey alan thanks for the question, The irish terrier we had was named bob and i suppose the best way to describe him was mental lol. he had no sense of self preservation he would try and charge any bigger dog no matter their size.He was really tolerent of kids and smaller dogs though.we kinda inherited him as he was my great aunties dog.he lived with the the springer with out incident but on walks he would try and lunge at bigger dogs.he also loved to chase us,cats anything really! as kids we used to play a game where we would run from him and hide on the swing set but if he caught up to us he would just jump up on us and knock us down, he played fairly rough but he had no malice in him.but as kids we would pretend to be scared.he was a fun dog but he sadly died quite young as we got him when he was 5 and he died at 8 from mange. Btw your american bulldog looks great, its a really rare breed in ireland could you describe his temperment as im really interested in a first hand account of the breed
                  • also castanha your dog looks great too,did you select that cross specifically for hunting or just as a companion, as none of the breeds in his/her make up are common or even present in ireland and i love to know more about it

                      • Mark, thanks for the kind words about my girl. I chose her because of the "crazy" blood combo in her...lol. I do not hunt, but I hike a lot in our California mountains. I wanted a good dog that is alert and aware of wild life. Also wanted a dog that has speed power, stamina, and agility to go over any obstacles we encounter in our mountains. She is pretty leggy and lean. Didn't want a dog that is too stocky with short legs and short muzzle. Her muzzle is really nice and her jaws very strong do to the AB and Catahoula blood, and she has webbed feet too :) She is super sweet and she is making a great all around companion. I just hope she will not try to catch any wild life we encounter, don't want her to get hurt. I'd prefer if she will bay, keep any animal away from me and hope she'll be smart enough to stay safe too.
                        • owned 1-english setter 1-spring spaniel 1-b.m. 1-rott 1-chow 3-mutts 1-bandog 2-pits 1-ddb 6-neo's (co-own 3 others) fostered~12...lol....Off my memory.
                          • That is insane...lol
                            • Man...I'll try...but off the top of my head I'll probably leave something out. A few mutts when I was young 1 Golden Retriever (also when I was young) An Irish Setter (when I was young...up until high school) A couple of Akitas (during my college years) A lot of APBTs (I couldn't count em) A Tosa A couple of Eng. Mastiffs A Neapolitan (not for long...maybe 6-9 months), A GD x APBT and over the last decade too many American Sentinel Canines to count.
                              • I owned many Sarplaninac dogs throughout my entire life (that was actually the first dog I remember seeing). 1 GSD as a Teenager, 2 working GSDs as an adult. Through former girlfriends I indirectly also "owned" 1 Boxer, 1 Rottweiler, 1 DDB, 1 Schnauzer, 1 Irish Wolfhound and a few mutts (so called "mustard pots" - as every breed apparently had dipped their wiener in). But Shars undoubtedly make the vast majority in my case.
                                • Astibus the "mustard pot" analogy is both disgusting and hilarious in equal measure. Genuinely made me chuckle! :)

If some of them have lived together, how they behaved?

First, THANKS, also this thread disappeared. I have to say that my boy is PROBABLY the IDEAL speciman and he was, in probably MOSTS opinion backyard bred. Butch is a Hybrid, a mixture of standard and bully type, 24 inches and about 80-85 pounds of muscle. Temperament wise EVERYONE loves Butch ESPECIALLY at the vet's office which happens to be in Petsmart, Banfield. Butch is VERY friendly but stubborn, also very smart, he picked up VERY well with his OB and he's kept it but, as I said, STUBBORN as HELL, LOL. Protection wise since probably about 5 months Butch would come in between if there's an argument but the BEST part is in PP. Personal Protection Butch is a BEAST and the turn on is fun to watch. So, Butch is very friendly but he is OUTSTANDING when turned on, protective and aggressive.
