Different lines of american bulldog

When i rarely reccomend the ab, i will 95% of the time reccomend strictly scott/painter/margentina styled dogs. They are as a whole, a healtheir, more active counterpart to their johnson bulldog cousins. HOWEVER, this style of dog has a HIGH level of prey drive, which can be disasterous if you live in a home with with small animals and kids. Ive never actually seen a healthy performance styled ab have issues with the kids, but when they get to running around and screaming and such, it COULD trigger that prey drive into affect. My own 2 dogs i have seen them with my own 2 eyes kill the unfortunate neighbors cats for coming in our yard, and have had no problems with the kids, altho i NEVER allowed them to be unsupervised with my youngest brother and all the little neighborhood rugrats whod come around, just as a preventative maintainence. These dogs make tireless workers, and will occupy themselves if you dont, and in any matter possible, be it destructive to them or you or your property. They need a job, they need a FIRM yet fair handler, and above all, they need a 100% effective at all times ROUTINE!!! SAME rules, by every family member at all times, same commands, same feedings etc etc etc. They will naturally love ALL of the members in the house, but ihave witnessed it with my OWN 2 EYES, they PICK who their rightful owner is, no matter who actually bought the dog or does the dirty work for it. Certain lines of performance dogs have been traditionally fought, especially here in the MIDWEST of the united states, namely the painter and margentina dogs. If you get a dog off these lines, you MUST be aware that there is a MUCH higher quantity of APBT and EBT blood running through their veins, making them MUCH more dog aggressive. But dont for a second fool yourself into believing if you get 1 from a different line they wont be dog aggressive, they are a BULLDOG, they will not take any crap from any other dog, no matter how big or mean. Certain lines, like the actual scott and hines dogs make FAR better hog hunting dogs than anything else, but WILL accell at anything you ask them or show them to do. I mean, if you take a painter dog hog hunting with a pack of strike dogs, you can almost always bet bottom dollar your painter dog will just as likely latch onto the strike dogs as the hog. Dogs like this would be the original Dick the bruiser AKA tiny. He was a 65 lbs male dog found on an old ladies front porch in alabama, who was hard and rough as they can come. ALso, look at Joshua kennels, Owl Hollow kennel, white bandits and ralph citarnella for dogs like these. The second style of ab is the Johnson styled. These dogs are basically a HUGE bulldog, created by crossing scott styled abs, with st bernard, bull mastiff, DDB, great dane and a few others, for the HUGE monsterous cartoonish look, like Spike from tom and jerry. These dogs are FAR more man aggressive than the scott lined dogs, and dont do nearly as well as their smaller counterparts when it comes to hunting. They are not athletic enough, can not breathe well enough, and are not driven enough to be good at it. ALSO, there is a practice of crossing the scott style with the Johnson style to get whats known as the HYBRID. This is basically an attempt at getting the best of both worlds, the fight and hunting drives of the scott style, and combine it with the higher man aggression the johnson brings to the table. It will USUALLY create a much more ameable family dog, as its not as drivey as its scott counterpart, while being more driven and healthier than the JDJ side of the breedings. Dogs of this style wood be sure grips RATTLER from the HOMEWARD BOUND movies. These are all things a person needs to keep in mind when considering an american bulldog. Why do you want an Ab What are you going to do with it Where will it sleep, live, eat , drink etc Who will have the most control over it Will the young children be allowed a lot of time with it is ANYONE in the family scared of dogs IS everyone in the house agreed upon the breed, commands, rules, responsibilities. If you cant honestly give a true reason for these questions, DO NOT GET AN AMERICAN BULLDOG!!! Mike
