My Weapon is a Dog Doc
If someone was trying to pet my dog over the fence I'd be encouraging them to "get 'em" too.

Hey all saw this awhile ago on bbc3 and found it again on youtube and thought the people here might find it interesting. Its basically about gang culture in England and how youths are now using dogs instead of/in addition to knives and guns (Part 1 of 6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6jIJz93J28&feature=plcp&context=C4733023VDvjVQa1PpcFPzL8n8IBpH89bC8FZydPwBkOtKD8e1Sv0%3D (Part 2 of 6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REFzjKblKys&feature=plcp&context=C4d04929VDvjVQa1PpcFPzL8n8IBpH87Dzik_RR6--CpFeAb7allk%3D (Part 3 of 6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oITIOKRpuUI&feature=plcp&context=C4d9a93dVDvjVQa1PpcFPzL8n8IBpH8ywRJnwkRy2dGl9qe9Huw0E%3D (Part 4 of 6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhCky5yqu7Y&feature=plcp&context=C49b3c69VDvjVQa1PpcFPzL8n8IBpH89GN7U9NyBQQE1TL5Lo_kLU%3D (Part 5 of 6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEtvbP8C1l8&feature=plcp&context=C46c4cb6VDvjVQa1PpcFPzL8n8IBpH859y_sfjDyPA_pfzrbRX_0Q%3D (Part 6 of 6) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vl6h1NyXp_U&feature=plcp&context=C498f064VDvjVQa1PpcFPzL8n8IBpH8yMZMAWHWZzkO93N01GVrnM%3D -

People need to realize that there's no such thing as an dangerous breed and that the owners are the problem. -

[quote1332687454=LethalD] If someone was trying to pet my dog over the fence I'd be encouraging them to "get 'em" too. [/quote1332687454] my nieghbors arent strangers, we know each other, i pay them to tap into their wireless internet and when we pass each other we usually have breif friendly "neighbor" conversations. My house is behind their house, not to the side. anyways point being the dog is overly aggressive for its age due to the way they are raising it. -

just wanted to clarify my question. I don't want to give the impression that I was offeded by "ghetto" or anything. I don't want to stir up some stupid argument. My question was sincere. I'm asking because as an american now living in central europe I find the type of person to type of dog match up here is completely different then what I am used to seeing in the states. If you want to find the big bulking"tuff guy" useless "pit bull" type dog here, you almost have to go to the rich suburby part of the town or city. These dogs are almost always the least socialized and they're usually the ones that are the biggest problem off the leash. Anytime you hear about some kid getting bit or mauled on the news it's more often than not a child in some well off (or at least "better" off family) and most of the time it's the families own dog that is involved. However the people who would be considered "ghetto" here (poor czechs and roma or gypsies as they're known) are almost never seen with bully breeds. if the have a dog at all it's usually some small little fluffy thing. So you you have these ghetto tuff guys walking around with toy poodles (which is a bit strange), and the yuppies are the ones with the bully "man eaters". I wonder why that is. Anyway just food for thought. be well people chris -

ghetto mean typical american ghetto, ignorant, beligerent, druggies, gangsters, thug mentality, criminals. Typical poor inner city behavior. The type of ppl that sell drugs steal cars beat and rob ppl, have no ambitions in life other then to have kids and get on housing, etc. etc. You can be poor and not ghetto. -

I have no problem with a person using a dog as a weapon, as long as it's kept responsibly and used at appropriate times. If a highly aggressive dog is poorly kept or improperly handled it can be as dangerous to the handlers and bystanders as to a bad guy, but that's true of any weapon. Personally I prefer a naturally civil dog who's raised to be social. That way I can take him with me and have him loose when I need him. But I can also count on an aggressive reaction when unusual things happen. When I lived in Jackson MS which is a dangerous city I encouraged my bandog to go after anyone looking over my fence even the neighbors. Where I live it's much safer, I don't have many neighbors and none that are very close. Here I encourage my dogs to accept my neighbors as friends, and we all look out for each other. So I don't make judgments on someone encouraging aggression from their guard dogs without knowing their situation. As long as the dog is well contained to their property. Especially in a place like the UK where guns have been stripped from the average citizen, and their are calls to make knives illegal. People need something to protect themselves and their families with. I also think the thugs using attack dogs after loosing guns is more proof of how foolish gun control is. Guns don't make thugs into thugs. There were thugs long before their were guns. If you outlaw guns they use dogs, outlaw dogs and they use machetties, out law them they use knives, outlaw them they use bats, out law them they use blunt objects and those are hard to outlaw. You can't really require the whole population to walk around in puffy mittens and knee/elbow pad so no one can hurt anyone. So all you end up with is you guarantee the physically weak like old, crippled, etc have no way to protect themselves. I would much rather my wife or daughter get in a gun fight with a 230lbs attacker than in a knife or hand fight with him. The gun gives them a chance they wouldn't have with a knife. Of course my family lives in the US so for the moment they have the benifits of having trained protection dogs and firearms to defend themselves with if I'm not there. Shooting the bad guy is a lot easier if he's got a 130lb bandog or two hanging on his gun arm. -

i know you already know this but i just want to point out a dog should only be trained to attack etc after it has already been highly trained in obedience etc. simply put, responsible ownership of protection dogs. not encouraging your dog to be as aggressive as possible and not teaching it anything else, and not too mention that you need to know what your doing and how to do it to properly teach a dog to attack etc. my dogs are not trained attack dogs, i did not raise them to be aggressive, but they wont allow a strange person into my yard. Had I raised them the way my neighbor and many ppl do, they would be overly aggressive. -

That's not nessesarily true often dog do better if they are trained in bitework before or during the time they learn OB. It can create conflict in the dog if his whole life he's lost every conflict he's had with a man during OB training especially those things that require compulsion. Especially with handler sensitive dogs. You don't want the dog being worried about getting in trouble with the handler rather than focusing on the decoy. Those dogs do have to be well contained during that period. -

David is correct. It DEPENDS upon the setting the dog will reside in. If the dog needs to be able to interact with people, yes...it needs ob. If however the dog is in the country, will never be exposed to society, and is secured...well...then the dog just needs to be stable minded with those it will interact with. OB done before protection work should be motivational. A dog needs to understand "No" as well...but compulsion and proofing OB isn't really necessary unless one is going to have the dog around others. -

either way, the dog needs to be trained for protection properly, not by someone that doesnt know what they are doing. take your typical ignorant person and have them training their dog to attack and wallah you have the typical ghetto gangsta guy that doesnt know crap about dogs but makes damn sure his dog bites anything in site. should i post the gangsta rap dog video again...lol -

I agree! We must not blame dogs for the problems they cause. We should blame the owners that did not train their dogs.
