Hello, My name is Toon and this is my first contribution to this site. I know this is a Molosser site but since there are many people here with dog knowledge I thought I'd give it a try. I am a big Airedale Terrier fan (grew up with them) and am thinking about buying one. Now my problem is that the majority of Airedales I see today no longer have the good old temperament I saw in the breed some 25 years ago. The breed has been influenced a lot by the shows (like many more breeds). Does anybody know where I can find the 'real' Airedales these days (i.e. kennels/countries)? By real temperament I mean Airedales that are very good with children, go when needed into protection mode without any human interference, and have a good hunting instinct (please do not misunderstand me, I do not advocate dogs that will chase anything on 2 or 4 legs, but for me this is an indication that the dog is willing to work/protect when guided well by humans). Thanks in advance for any comments/tips. Toon -

There is a guy who breeds in California bigger than show lines 12 gen removed from show lines he has been breeding for hunting hogs and gundogs his males can be 27inchs 85LB born & raised outside in communal pens. This guy sounds like a good breeder they are not pampered pets or too aggressive he breeds them to work. http://www.huntingairedales.com/huntingcompanions.htm http://www.huntingairedales.com/ http://www.gundogbreeders.com/breeders-california/high-country-airedales.html -
