I would like to know who has ever really hunted with a presa canario and what were your experiences like. How do you train a dog for hunting? If you let him hunt boar and deer, will it be "on" every time the dog sees a hog or deer? Or is it like PP where there is a command to get the prey or they just attack? AHHH so many questions! :) -
pitbull, If you want to hunt boar it helps if the dog as a breed is a breed known for hunting and comes from hunting lines. This will help maximize your chances of getting a "good dog". If you go hunting with an unproven breed in hunting you may have a difficult ordeal because the dogs innate abilities are not geared toward hunting. The following link will help you see what to look for in the woods when hunting. http://www.razorbackoutfitters.com/HogHunting101.aspx In regards to hunting with a dog that is a novice, and he is brought out with experienced dogs he will catch on to what is going on he dosen't need formal training. Yes it will be "on" everytime your dog sees a boar.

Since you mention deer and boar, I assume that's what you're interested in hunting? I do know a handful of presas that made it into catchdogs. The idea was SLOWLY gaining popularity a couple years ago, with the help of Art Parker who was willing to test and train the dogs for us, but then when the locals shut him down, people lost interest fast. I do know of one guy currently training his presa in Fla on Boar for sure- takes her out with other dogs and I guess she's learning from that. AS I am given to understand, like Alapaha says, when the bay dogs go off, the dog will either know what to do, or not- at least in it's reaction. Either it runs towards, or away LOL. AS for the deer, in my area deer hunting with dogs seems to be letting the dogs loose with tracking collars to flush the deer out to the side of the road, where the hunters are sitting in their pickups drinking beer  If the dogs do a good job, they get picked up and taken home. If they don't.... But, if that's the kind of deer hunting you're talking about, I really don't think the presa is the dog for it. -

True about Antonio's dogs, but the country is full of presa's and I was just wondering who was 'working' their dogs, with their natural abilities. My boy is starting to become a presa or atleast what I think a presa is in my eyes! He s just so much taller than my girl already, its crazy to me sometimes. But he's coming into his own, I would love to do some hunting and bite work with him, especially hunting because of his speed and hitting power, but he wont bite, unless my girl is biting him (friendly fire). My girl will be nice in hunting too I believe, because her prey drive and agility is crazy, her only negative in my eyes in her height (22-23 inches). Shes really stocky, but its muscle unbelievably, her muscle rip out if her shoulder and chest area so much, people always ask "whats your presa on?" LOL I tell them it called exercise. But anyway if there are any hunters in the DC,MD,VA (northern or central) that would be interested in teaching to hunt with my dogs please get in contact with me! -
my dogs are related to his dogs and his dogs have barnacan bull in there lines
when you say his are you refering to Sam or Antonio? How far back does you or his dogs have barnacan bull in their lines? Just asking because I believe after a few generations of breeding if not bred back into the line then they really aren't barnacan bull or whoever line for that matter! -

AS mentioned previously, I don't know of any hunting deer with presas. I live in central Va, but last I heard they're trying hard to reduce hunting with dogs in any fashion anyway. We had to go to SC to get to where they were using dogs on hogs, to try my girl out. -
