My Pup Athena the Black "Fila"

She has a pleasant face and expression. Where did you get her from? Did the parents do the Ojeriza tests?

    • This little girl is a so much fun very laid back personality with spunk now at 5 months she is refusing to be touched by strangers and will put herself between any person and growls if they get too close. She is very very socialized and at least to this point listens if we say they are okay. Thats for now atleast... against what some people say this little girl for being black is spot on for what a Fila is supposed to look like[br][link={e_FILE}public/1324152547_19014_FT0_182.jpg][img:width=500&height=669]{e_FILE}public/1324152547_19014_FT0_182_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1324152547_19014_FT0_230.jpg][img:width=500&height=669]{e_FILE}public/1324152547_19014_FT0_230_.jpg">[/link][br][br][img:width=480&height=640]{e_FILE}public/1324152547_19014_FT0_103.jpg">

        • nobody nothin?
          • She has a pleasant face and expression. Where did you get her from? Did the parents do the Ojeriza tests?
            • I got her from Lions Den and I have heard of the test but am not sure they did it, but i have to say iv been there on multiple occasions saw both parents even saw grandparents and they all acted very very correct and so does she.. she is a sweetheart though to my family
              • I'm not a huge fan of the breed, but it will be nice to see her progress(if you continue to post it) in both physical and mental growth. Good luck with her.
                • Hey Tiger, Beautiful pup. I have a female pup that looks almost identical. Don't listen to the BS from people bashing black or large filas, they have an agenda and want houndish filas, not mastiff type. Is this your first fila? What part of the US are you from? Congrats!! Lets get some fila talk on this forum, they are the best!! BTW does your pup love to use her paw, like shake? Alot of black filas do that for some reason.
                  • Nice pup. Good luck with her. Richard
                    • Thank you everyone for the kind words and she is obsessed with her paws she uses them like a cat might honestly pawing at nearly everything while sniffing at the same time. I love the more modern "mastiffy" filas, neither are wrong in my opinion but a matter of personal choice. I will make sure to keep everyone posted on how she turns out
                      • So i thought id give a slight update on her temperament and her growth thus far... took her to the vet and she weighs 70 pounds at a little over 6 months... she has a very weird temperament its surprisingly balanced and with strong nerves.... she has shown very very clear ojerza when clearly nervous but seems to know the difference between good and bad people probably from the EXTREME level of socialization shes been given since the day we picked her up... she still pretty gangly and cant wait to see her grow into herself
                        • Gorgeous dog :)
                          • Agree, very nice. I really like the fila in black. Enjoy your pup.
                            • Look great!!!! Love that "little" face!
                              • Cute pup :) Who is she out of?
                                • Thanks guys for the kind words she shows great signs. and she is out of Bandit 2 X Haggar http://filaslionsden.com/Our_Dogs/Bandit2.html Hagger i dont believed belongs to them but i believe is out of Edu Pedro and a dog in Brazil she was much more "classic" Fila in her looks
                                  • haggar is the 3rd one down theres actually a few dogs that are either his dogs or through his dogs on there http://www.filabrasilassn.com/Hall_of_Fame.shtml
                                    • I have read tons about the Fila and all, but since you have first hand experience with the breed and aren't trying to make a profit can you tell me about her temperament. Is this dog the type of dog you have to put away when visitors come because of it's Orijenza? Or is it just an aloof dog that doesn't care for them?
                                      • [quote1326225199=tiger12490] haggar is the 3rd one down theres actually a few dogs that are either his dogs or through his dogs on there http://www.filabrasilassn.com/Hall_of_Fame.shtml [/quote1326225199] Is this the kennel Haggar is from? • @ David her being 6 mo at this time she is aloof she wont let but a very select few people touch her but.... but she wont randomly attack someone walking down the street but she will let everyone know if she feels something is out of place.....@ vorax yes, i met the dogs in Vorax post and when i say met i mean from afar those dogs there was no possible way they would let you on there property all of them had to be caged and every one of them would without a shadow of a doubt would do a TON of damage to an intruder his dogs were not shy were not fearful they were very very serious... were expecting when she becomes an adult even with the extreme socialization she's been through that when a guest is here she will be put away
                                          • Are the lips bleeding from biting a sleeve (at 3:30)??
                                            • [quote1326243607=Astibus] Are the lips bleeding from biting a sleeve (at 3:30)?? [/quote1326243607] im guessing that's whats prob what it was, lip got caught during a bite..... meh he'll be okay haha
                                              • Would excessive skin then be considered functional or non-functional?
                                                • The only difference in functional and non-functional is if they can complete there task, that dog was not hindered slowed or at all bothered by the fact he bit his lip that skin and wrinkles is part of the Fila and allows them to smell much to the same way the bloodhound does and everything from those ears (that's why high "neo" ears is a fault) and those wrinkles help in there original task of hunting large game and slaves in the jungle so it helps significantly in there function
                                                  • [quote1326249722=Astibus] Are the lips bleeding from biting a sleeve (at 3:30)?? [/quote1326249722] Good call, it appears so. I do think a Fila would look better with cropped ears and a docked tail like the Neo.
                                                    • [quote1326251420=tiger12490] skin and wrinkles is part of the Fila and allows them to smell much to the same way the bloodhound does and everything from those ears (that's why high "neo" ears is a fault) and those wrinkles help in there original task of hunting large game and slaves in the jungle so it helps significantly in there function [/quote1326251420] Fair enough, actually. Assuming the extra loose lips do in fact help with tracking, I could see the point that biting its own lips would be considered a tolerable disadvantage in combat. But how do excessively floppy bloodhound ears help in hunting down large game or humans? Wouldn't erect ears be better for this? Or are wolves, foxes and bats all wrong? Also, could it be that high "neo" ears is a fault because for example the fila in the video appears to have neo infused? Just speculating here of course, but many times certain traits are considered a fault in various breed descriptions because of worry about impurity, not because of functionality.
                                                      • Bloodhounds also have large, long ears which prevent wind from scattering skin cells away from the dog's nose and folds of wrinkled flesh under the neck which catch stray scent particles reinforcing the scent in the dog's memory and nose. . http://www.content4reprint.com/pets-and-animals/the-bloodhound-breed-essential-information-and-interesting-facts.htm Neo infused i know this is going to start something but there dogs have Gen that go back farther than some APBT iv seen..... iv talked to him face to face with him and learned the difference stop on the head low hanging ears, there is a difference in the Filas ( the modern and the old) but color and size is about it... i can tell you if there is Neo in the dog it hasn't been for at least 10 gen back and i say that because number one i have peds for Athena iv traced back over 10 gen...... and iv visually seen these dogs notice the difference in ears, the stop, and of course the high rear end Marley has is a sign of his breed... if there is Neo o well did the dog some justice [br][img:width=250&height=166]{e_FILE}public/1326254890_19014_FT84312_dsc_5617-250x166.jpg">[br][img:width=259&height=194]{e_FILE}public/1326254890_19014_FT84312_images.jpg">
                                                        • [quote1326256732=tiger12490] there is a difference in the Filas ( the modern and the old) but color and size is about it... [/quote1326256732] It's just that I remember Filas looking different than that modern type, that's all. (BTW, just based on appearance as a dog, I personally like the more robust fila in the video better than the bloodhound like "traditional" filas). So I'm really not judging here.
                                                          • ye they look more houndish in the classic fila i personally like the more mastiff fila as well
                                                            • Most people like the mastiff type. Tiger12490, lionsden is notorious for not giving registration papers as promised for their puppies, as well as shipping sick puppies. Not so much if you pick them up. Did you get yours, if so what organization, FCI or CBKC? Pup looks great, just curious about papers. Luis Yanez has burnt alot of people. For $2000 you should get the papers as promised.
                                                              • lol that's such a coincidence me and my wife just got the mail literally 10 min ago and they were in there and through the FCI... I keep in regular contact with Luis i also live 30 min from him so ye it would be hard to burn me hahaha il post a pic just in case anyone would like to know what they look like..
                                                                • I was never to worried about it because i do talk to him frequently iv never had a problem with him meh idk haha[br][link={e_FILE}public/1326259765_19014_FT84312_img_0843.jpg][img:width=500&height=373]{e_FILE}public/1326259765_19014_FT84312_img_0843_.jpg">[/link][br]
                                                                  • I'm sure living close to him makes a difference. He has quite the reputation. FYI that is an application, not actual papers. However it appears the parents have reg #'s so you should be ok. Ironic they were born in June and you just got the app, good breeders have that ready at 6 weeks of age. Glad you had a good experience with him, count yourself lucky. How the little girl? Does she like to play with your shoes and clothes? Rascals LOL.
                                                                    • Ye i know its just there regs had to do something very similar for my little APBT... ye and she is a mess she is a clothes lover she likes to go straight for the dirty clothes knocking over hampers and all underwear seem to be her favorite what a little freak lol
                                                                      • LOL I go thru the same thing, you can buy them 20 toys and they want your clothes. Hard habit to break, same as pawing and putting your hand in their mouth(not biting). They are awesome dogs, and keep you busy right. I bet her and your abpt love to rough house. I have a female pup that could pass as her unrelated twin sister.
                                                                        • lol i feel like you know my dog personally seriously you 100% right on it with the random cat like pawing and the mouthy (non-biting) obsession and her dog abuse on my apbt haha you got a picture of your girl?
                                                                          • Parrots who really trust their owner will sometimes lay on their back on the owners lap which is a birds most venerable position. Likewise dogs who put your hand in their mouth without biting can be a great show of respect from a dog, it can also be playing or a combination of the two. A pit and a fila pup playing can really knock some things around, keep all fragile stuff put up high right? I'll bet your fila grabs the pit by the neck and gets dragged around, no fun with sharp puppy teeth LOL. Fila pups never tire of that. I sent you a PM.
