You are correct but I like that all their standards will now have this intro paragraph. A Breed Standard is the guideline which describes the ideal characteristics, temperament and appearance of a breed and ensures that the breed is fit for function. Absolute soundness is essential. Breeders and judges should at all times be careful to avoid obvious conditions or exaggerations which would be detrimental in any way to the health, welfare or soundness of this breed. From time to time certain conditions or exaggerations may be considered to have the potential to affect dogs in some breeds adversely, and judges and breeders are requested to refer to the Kennel Club website for details of any such current issues. If a feature or quality is desirable it should only be present in the right measure. I added the bolding to emphasize some points. If the judges heed the desires of the KC then things will change. Of course this assumes that they know what the hack the standard really means. -

At least they are moving in the right direction. Different is one thing exaggerations that hinder the dogs function is something else. -
as if any of the neo standards were ever followed
    Here it seems the judges flick through the list of participants of a show reconize a name and name that the winner. Lot less hassle than learning a new set of rules or learning the first set in the first place. Most leave it to the judges what visit from overseas who get invited by a certain breeder or breeders. I see some improvement but dont think it will change the breeding of NM overnight. Plus the double dewlap it will be hard to dismiss a dog with that if everything else is within standard. -

The standard isn't from the country of origin. IMHO that makes it irrelevent. -

The Italian standard although still open to interpretation is very detailed whereas the Uk KC only allows the standard to be if i recall correctly 1 A4 page worth. Therefore much information is disregarded in the breed standard. Most other EU states that I am aware of all use the FCI std.
