new hybrid pup

My wife and I just recently (2 months ago) purchased a 62.5% boerboel, 12.5% kangal, 12.5% dogo argenino, 12.5% great Dane from Andrew Johnston of olympicdogs.net. He is currently 5 months old and 75 lbs as of yesterday before breakfast. He is best of friends with our 10 pound terrier and loves kids. Just wondering if there are any other owners of a similar hybrid and what to expect as an adult.

      • Curious how this dog turned out, as I follow Andrew Johnson's program and almost bought a dog from him.

      • It would be nice to know how the new hybrid (now 6 years old) is doing. @Joshuahodges can you tell us about it.

        • hey everyone :) in my opinion as long as hes happy healthy playful and brave thats it the boerboel the dogo and so on from working line cant be better if u mix them u get ... a dog and nothing else but as i sayd above what counts is this :)

          • I'm curious. What are you expecting from this hybrid that you will not get from another dog?

            • @guard_dog this is a well thought out and interesting observation. I have noticed the same over the years and am intellectually curious about the future of this trend. I do think we will start seeing more purposeful purchases and thus breeding to suit.

with the massive influx of illegal aliens into the United States, citizens are becoming more safety conscious. The protect themselves and their properties, American Citizens are arming themselves at a rapid rate in spite of the Government's attempts to vilify the population who are armed. Those who are not in favor or the traditional American Way of protecting themselves will eventually revert to and seek out Guardian dogs.

In a few years I predict there will be a massive demand for serious guardian dogs.

              •  Even if it did I didn't believe it would be successful. From this point on I liked rare breeds. I was looking in Dog World. I came across a picture of the Presa Canario. I refused to look at them long knowing I would start to research the breed. I'd see the pictures of Show Stoppers dogs and quickly turn the page. But one day I decided to take a good look. I got more interested. I did more and more research.

Wow - I had a subscription to Dog World Magazine for many years as they had great articles and photos. One of their articles feature the 3 Ovcharkas and one of the dogs in the the photo was ours. I think it is posted here on MD somewhere. It has the Caucasian, Central Asian, and South Russian Ovcharka.

I am glad you decided to more research and select the breed as you have been an great ambassador for the breed. Keep up the good work.

                • eliteguardianpresa "Years ago a guy wanted to buy a Presa from me. I refused to sell it to him. I knew he could still buy one from someone else. He wanted to breed it to a Cane Corso. 2 breeds with a similar look a similar temperament. He couldn't tell me why he wanted to do this. What was the purpose. What would be the purpose for the dog. What would make the dog that he was going to produce special. He wanted a large guard dog. He would get a large Guardian with either of these breeds without crossing them."
                • Most bandog breeders have valid reasons for their program. Some cross breed to improve function, health or to recreate a breed. Other bandog breeders see a need to do it because either a breed is rare or in low numbers and want to preserve the breed from extinction.

                  • Good points but lets not forget the other reason some breed the exotic mixes. Consumers usually seek out the unique and so we will have very creative, purpose bred mixes. Follow the money in some cases. Nothing wrong with it if done well and great care is taken to preserve health and function of the dogs.

                  • Do you have some pictures? At the moment we don't want to take any new pets as our life was pretty intense for the last couple of years. But as soon as my husband is done with his dissertation https://academized.com/write-my-dissertation i think he will straight start thinking about welcoming new members to our family.
