        • It is very sad someone poisened two of your dogs, that is straight up B.S. The artical makes some great points, heres a few of my thoughts..A large majority of pitbull owners shouldnt have the dog, because they dont have the control or experience it takes to own a dog with such a high prey drive[im talking apbt, not pitbull type dogs].A apbt is a huge responsability, many say the apbt wont look for trouble, but it wont back down either, from my direct experience this is untrue in many cases. Game pits are most defenitly a handfull and if not tightly secured will bust out and run amuck, so keeping the dog secured is first and foremost. Also,Too many gangster wannabes are getting the dogs for there fake egos, the media culture that is pushing the gangster image is partly to blame.but the dogs are the main ones who suffer. Many breeds like the bandogge are being lumped in with the apbt, but there is one true pit, the apbt.Bandogges are protection dogs by birth, and many are human aggresive and will attack strange people, mixing game dog with protection dog is creating a protective attack dog and needs to be in the hands of the pros or at least people with dominate dog experience.I hope none of this gets taken the wrong way,Im a owner of both apbt and pit bull type[bandogge] im expressing a honest opinion and not presenting this as absolute fact.Did anyone here that the lady in San Francisco new here dogs were aggresive, and insted of locking them in the bassment when she went out,she would lock here boy in the bassment knowing he would break out?She sounds like the poster child for someone who shouldnt own a pitbull..
          • Fantastic article. :D Finally, a no-bull story about the Pit Bull. Everyone should read this. 8)
            • Great article! I hope things will start to change soon, because this great breed has suffered enough!
              • Wow! Great piece! A very good article! I'll definitely be passing this on to a few people.
                • What a fantastic article :!: Yes, it should be read by EVERYONE... - and read two or three times by those people, who have the opinion, that certain breeds are 'dangerous killer machines be nature. Thanks Gary for posting it - and thanks Eyes_of_Fire for writing it :D
                  • Nice article indeed... :) Anyway, when you are talking about apbt´s you can´t just say the good things. They are naturally great dogs with humans and can be great family pets, and everybody knows (or should know) that. The point is you always forget to say how dangerous they are around other dogs. That´s what really concerns me about the breed. People seem to forget that they´re mostly fighting dogs and they often fight for no reason and with, very often, dramatic consequences for the other dogs. A great number of dogs are killed every year by apbt´s. Anyway, I know that a responsible owner doesn´t let his apbt unleashed around other dogs and I´m sure that´s the case of most of you.
                    • Skive , How many APBTs have you owned? I owned 7. ALL I can say is , GREAT dogs. You are over reacting with the dog aggression thing.

Any of the pit bull breeds may be raised without showing the tendency to attack other dogs. I've seen many pepole out walking their pit bulls when walking my dog at the local park, and they are well behaved. Much better than the unleashed Labs running up into their faces. It's all a matter of perspective and training. If you teach your dog to be an alpha dog, the dog will be aggressive toward other dogs as well as strange people who try to impose authority over them. On the other hand if you teach them that you are the alpha, then they will follow your lead - calm response with you provides them a reassurance that the situation is under control and they need not act on it.
                        • Well I never owned one but i´ve known lots of pitbulls and I certainly don´t agree with you. It´s their nature, they´re naturally confrontational dogs and that has absolutely nothing to do with teatching to be alpha dogs or not. Are you expecting me to believe that dogs that have been bred mostly for fighting for the las 200 years can be perfectly well around other dogs without the risk of atacking them? That´s biological. I´m no ignorant when i speak about these things and I also saw many apbt´s hanging around well with other dogsd bue they were still young. Since thei become 1 year old or so the became more dangerous. I´ve seen adult ones playng with other adult dogs and not atacking them but that´s just a matter of time. they can be 5 minutes playing with another dog and everything is ok but suddenly and without a warning they attack the other dog, and believe me i´ve seen this a lot of times. Two examples... I have a friend that has a gsd and his dog was already attacked twice. One day they were playing and I said to him. "I wouldn´t let your dog play with that pit, I´m warning you" he said "oh there´s no problem they are fine" well, some minutes after this the pit atacked the gsd. fortunatly nothing happened ´cause we were able to stop the fight right away. The second time we were walking the dog (gsd) and a friend of ours who owns an AmStaff ( reportedly less dog agressive than apbt´s) arrived. I warned him not to put the dogs together but the gsd owner said it was fine since they had already been together when the AmStaff was a pup. I said "you´ll see" well when the guy unleashed is AmStaff it went straight to the gsd and started a fight. We had difficulties in stoping the fight but again nothig serous happened. Don´t get me wrong I respect apbt´s as i respect any other breed but they really have do be handled with responsability and deniyng that is really hiding a fact. Oh and by the way, my avatar is not a lab...
                          • Commooon Skive.. Dogs are what owners want them to be 99% of the time.. If the owner is sick the dog will probably learn to be like him/her.. it.. A lille sick Dach hound attacked my little puppy a few months ago and the owner was ... hummm... just like his dog.. Sure these dogs have a natural aggression with dogs and strange people, but not every dog is like that.. I think I know elligal Pits under the name Amstaff and all of them are great dogs.. Happy with other dogs and strange people whom they meet every day.. Kejser as you see in the Amstaff gallery is probably a Pit from Poland, but he's one of the sweetest dog I've ever met.. I know a few Tosas as well and they're just as sweet..
                            • I would love to be able to crosspost this on another forum that I am on. pitbullforum.com Some of the people really need to read this. They need to read these ideas from someone other than me. Thank you.
                              • I just got a copy of this month's Maxim. In a section called Circus Maximus, they have a brief story about a couple of "pit bulls" attacking a bull in Louisiana after the flood. Take a look if you see it in the story this month. The pictures are very interesting.

                                  • Melissa, When you get the time to write another article you welcome to publish it here again. Good to see you back on MD. How's Triton?
                                    • I am sure that many people would think different of the Bully Breeds if they would know that it is a fault among gamebreds to attack humans, and that dog agressivity is something different from aggressivity to humans. There are so many degenerated dogs among other breeds especially the established dogs like cocker spaniels or GSDs! The real Pit Bull Problem is that many of the people don't know how a Pitbull looks, they think, that a Pitbull looks like Spike from Tom and Jerry Cartoons. Many people wouldn't guess you have a pitbull here, many people think EVERY Pitbull is bigger than a Rottweiler, and as muscular as Arnie Schwarzenegger, always evil looking. Many people would even like the Pitbull that is coming their way, and would be surprised if you tell them what it is! I've seen an information stand in city a few years ago, which was propergating the ban of the APBT and all other fighters, and the pictures they showed on their leaflets were Argentinian Dogos, DDBx and an American Bulldog but all photos should be Photos of the APBT. When i asked the guys why a DDBx a Dogo and a AmerBull is said to be a Pitbull and i said that regular Pitbulls are max. 53 cm big, the guy said: " No, these dogs are Pitbulls. Pitbulls are not only 53 cm big, they are usually 80 cm average!" Hooray for the Bullshitters, who usually maul the pitbull RASTA

                                        • Thanks for the update. When you get your master piece written just let me know and I'll give you the email address to send it to. I hear you.. dialup sucks. If I removed the scrolling pics and some other features it would load much faster for you - however.. My load times are less than 2 seconds here and sometimes less than 1 second at home with DSL or Cable. :(
                                          • Great piece,it is to late in my country the apbt, fila, dogo, tosa are all banned, politicals and police would not know any of these breeds if they were petting them, they all got banned on there repitation, how messed up is that :x
                                            • Hi Pikey, You are so right. In most cases the politicians who enact the breed ban laws probably would not know the breed they are banning of one of the dogs pee's on their leg. It is sad when the law makers succumb to the pressures of the media and do something ignorant like legislating a breed ban.
                                              • I've just re-read the article. 8) It has now officially been added to the APBT breed Profile via the Read More link at the bottom.
