SAR compared to CO

You could say that the CO is just a bigger and less stable Sar. :P

  • Apologies if this topic has alrady been covered. Does anyone one have experience of both SAR and Co? Generally - What are the differences? Is one easier to handle than the other, especially for someone new to these breeds? Do they have equal protection ability? Is one more dog aggressive than the other? More dominant etc? Many thanks Wolfie

        • It's all about finding the right bloodlines of either breed and the amount of training/socialization one's willing/able to put into raising the dog.

          •
You could say that the CO is just a bigger and less stable Sar. :P
Bigger maybe but certainly not less stable. It is the Russian CO breed standard that requires strong nerved, well balanced dogs. That means CO are to be stable dogs as an objective. I recommend that you go to http://www.fci.be and read the FCI breed standards for the various LGD breed with attention to the temperament descriptions for each.

            •
.. CO is just a bigger and less stable Sar. :P
Can you explain the less stable part of your statement for me so a layman can understand it... I see the term stability, strong nerved, and nervebags thrown around on this forum but have yet to see a good explanation of what exactly the user of the term has in mind. It reminds me of Obama's "hope" and "change" - no defination but sounds good. I know i read something about this on here already but don't have time to searh now.

              • Went to FCI site...Group 2. Does not appear to be an English version of standard for Sarplaninac. No German one either. Only breed on the page that is missing one... http://www.fci.be/nomenclatures_detail.asp?lang=en&file=group2
