Why "Overgrowing" Your Large Breed Puppy is Dangerous (puppy food and large dogs)

What's everyone's opinion in this?

    • I agree you should give a good healthy diet for a puppy and never try to give food that will make their growth faster. Their growth should be slow and steady so they can have the best results when they are finished growing.

      • After 3 months I switch my mastiffs over to adult food and keep them lean. I would rather see ribs then a roll, I find that keeping them lean they are more active and more sure footed as pups.

Over feeding or trying to push the dog into growing faster is silly. Genetics is genetics and the dog will grow into what it was designed to.

        • This quote from the article by Dr. Becker is probably the most important for modern dog owners of breeds of any size.

"Many pet owners still believe a roly poly puppy is a healthy puppy. We need to set that old thinking aside if we’re going to help large and giant breed dogs live longer, healthier live"

This is a good topic to discuss - what are you thoughts?
