protection dog qualities
i have been starting to think that for a protection dog, speed and agility are very important, maybe more so then power. It seems most ppl look at a large powerfull dog like a presa or something and think its the wonder dog of protection due to its size and appearance. But I am starting to think that for a dog for something like schutzhound speed and agility are more important, as most large breed dogs are already strong enough to take out a person. I mean a dog that can jump walls, climb fences, etc is going to be better at getting the bad guy.
these thoughts led me to thinking, what breeds do you guys think are best for protection work?
it seems the german sheperd is the most popular. theres got to be a reason behind it. I know many dogs can do it, but why is it the almost all police use the GSD? outside of the GSD, what other breeds of dogs are being used by police? i believe only the doberman? maybe the rott as well?

The Belgian dogs as well, in particular, the Malinois. I wish I knew why these breeds are chosen as my breed of choice is VERY agile AND decent sized as well between 80-85 pounds.
