Dog people

I believe that the MAJORITY of people who are doing the insulting, name calling and attempts to degrade others instead of working with them is based around their own insecurities and money. If you can convince people that Breeder X has horrible dogs and the ones you are producing are better, this results in more sales and hence, more money in the pocket. It's sad that they get caught up in all this drama (much of which is based on fictional scenarios) instead of trying to collaborate with other people to preserve or even improve the breed/s that they claim to love.

• In December last year I wrote an article on my blog and intended to link it here but did not get around to it. Here is a snipet of the article.. you can read the rest by clicking the link below. I have seen quite a few forums on which dog people behave very rude to each other. Name calling, trading insults and general inhospitable behavior appear to be the norm. You have probably been to some of those discussion boards yourself and seen the garbage written there. This kind of behavior has been going on for several years now and there seems to be a very select group of people who engage in this type of behavior. If you have been around the dog forums and boards for the last few years you have probably encountered some uncivil behavior. I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

• Also, I've noticed that of these dog people who get caught up in the mudslinging, name calling and drama B.S., a LOT of them happen to be female. ...Just an observation.

• Can you imagine the power we would have if dog people united and worked for their common benefit. We could be our own political party.

• But even between dogpeople there are other believes in what is right or wrong and what they think the right goal is.Not all about the money people have diffrent believes what is right for dogs and breed. So even dogpeople struggle with dogpeople. There are passianoted people here ,they love dogs and want to do what is best but even these people fight with eachother.Ideals are diffrent.
• I've been mostly a lurker on several dog forums for about 2 years now and its more common than not to see discord and rude, insulting behaviour. This isn't only on dog sites-- my fiance has been involved with saltwater fish and reef keeping for years and the arguments on those forums are equally as vicious. (For the record Xamen13, the reef keeping hobby is predominantly male and they still get into some pretty big pissing matches.) In anycase, I think it's just a reflecton of how society as a whole is these days. Social niceties aren't as important as they once were generations ago and parents today certainly don't seem to teach them to their children.
• The BEST..and the Quest for the Best is what all the fuss is about..everyone raises the BEST _ _ _ , so and so Kennels are puppy mills..back yard breeders, pit fighters, breed ruiners, unregulated crap owners, or hint hint their dogs are to big must have some _ _ _ _ in them..or worse a _ _ _ _ x _ _ _ mix. M O N E Y If the Law was no dog could be sold for more than 500.00 80% of this BS would END. When people are breeding say _ _ _ dogs and the litters are say 6 and the show/breeding pups are 2 being sold for say 3500.00 How many REAL Buyers are out there who have the $$$ and the time to put up with a 150lb pooping machine that may drool DOES shed may or may not be people/ dog friendly..and will cost you on avg 200.00 a month between food toys vet bills and insurance over its lifetime. To get to those few buyers the rest of us have to put up with this BS. And then theres the ? of Breed type original? ( like you have photos from 200 years ago) or working..which in reality is a show dog vs a dog doing what it was bred to do...be it herding, cart pulling, and yes fighting..man and beast. This makes up 9% The other 10% of the crap is caused by DOG SHOWS..God forbid a dog wins a show or weight pull or race or french ring etc..because his owner than gains 100pts on his/her IQ and knows everything about that breed..and only THEY have a say. The last 1% are the kids who got beat up at lunch everyday because they know everything about anything..and HAVE to be right or they post novels on every forum where someone disagreed with them My 2¢
• I like your explanation NickD sounds about right to me.
