Deutsche Bandogge

Excellent!  Those sound like very good breedings.  Have you noticed any particular traits or behaviour you can share with you? How does your bandogs measure up to the ones from Slovakia?

  • Anyone got info, links and pics of these mighty dogs? cheers
    • We have a lot of information on the breed profiles section so searching in Articles will usually reveal what you are looking for.

      • yes, otherwise I would'nt be asking =)
        • So I take it that you found the breed profile then. It is highlited in my original post.
          • We call these dogs Alanos. I grow the breed since 2010. Since breeding is genetically too narrow, I am mating the next generation with American Bandogs from Slovakia. There you have very good Bandogs which have long been paired with Bandog x Bandog. Very healthy and powerful dogs.

              • Hello!

Our Alanos/Bandogs are usually not so heavy and usually have not many wrinkles on the head. The original breeds were: Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Alano Espanol, CA de Bou, Dogo Argentino. The last two races are not safe to hand as none of the founders is active anymore. So it's not a Mastino in the American Bandog. They're pure power dogs. Otherwise they are enormously similar to the American Bandog, therefore the union of both races. I have brought six litters so far, unfortunately only my dog is used for breeding. This year for the last time with a male from Imperial Bandog. From this mating I keep at least one female for further breeding. I promise myself of mating healthy and top performance dogs.

That promise you made to yourself is to be the basis of your breeding program and will serve you very well as you go.  Too many people bread for a certain look and ignore form and function.  By mating healthy top performing dogs you are highlighting both the good and bad that may be hidden the gene pool. This kind of performance breeding will enable the weakness to be easily seen and also enhance the positive traits.  Good luck with the program.

Why not some Bullboxer too ?

                      Why not some Bullboxer too?

That is a good idea. Would bring some more athleticism to the breed - wonder if that may introduce a smaller bone structure which is probably not desired.
