Help with boerboel...

Think it varies widely, country to country, Breeder to breeder. Here's a few links that may be of use.. http://boerboel.co.za/forum http://www.ukbc.co.uk/

    • In contact with a breeder from Ohio about bring a Boerboel into our family. After doing some research in my local library I was pleased with the articles and books I find about the Boerboel. Especially with the sections I read regarding their temperament, very protective of family extremely loyal to owner. After visiting this section on the forum and viewing some articles on the internet it seems that the Boerboel is viewed in a different light. How do you feel the Boerboel breed in America is compared to the breed in SA. I have failed to come across an article from the US where a Boerboel attack occurred. If I were to purchase a Boerboel I would be doing everything possible to avoid this situation in terms of training my pup. The breeder seems like a good breeder and form most of my contact with her it seems as if temperament is a key aspect of breeding for her. If you would please check out her website and let me know what you think of her dogs and please let me know your opinion on BB temp. Thank you for your help. website: putting deposit on litter between Alfonzo and Chenille for pick of the litter. It is in litter section http://www.dynastysaboerboels.com/litters.htm

        • I thought about getting a pup from this breeder. Put in a deposit even. But no pup. When I finally backed out after 8 months with no pup or even pregnancy from the dam, she would not give the deposit back. She claimed she missed her dogs heat. I have looked at the web site every now and then, and in 1 year she has had 0 pups for sale. with 4 females and 6 or so males, I would think she would be selling some or at least having a dog pregnant. So I believe she takes deposits and doesn't give any pups and waits for people to back out. Run the other way from Dynasty boerboels. But thats just my opinion. Don't put a deposit down until you pick the pup out.

                    • After doing the research it seems that Boerboels tend to have a problems with people not known to them. Does the boerboel have any issues with walking? Can they be walked without have an issue at strangers? Can you be approached by someone unknown by the boerboel without having it be an issue. Thanks for your help....

                      • Odin doesn't have too much issue when we are walking, but don't try to come into my house without permission. He does, however, have a problem with other dogs getting in his "personal space" - like dogs with poor social skills. It's more like the owners that rush up with their dogs "ooooh, do you want to say hi?!?" He usually gives a growl (& sometimes a nip) to let them know they need to back off. Just a thought about your search for a breeder... Odin came from Centurion Boerboels in Atlanta, GA. The breeder is Kerri Dale. I am very pleased with her. I had pretty much constant contact with her throughout the entire process. She sent email updates & pics of mom & pups every week. (I was able to put together a really cute puppy/baby book. LOL) I told her that I wanted a male, & she should choose the best one for me. It needed to fit in with the other members of our family: a senior dog, 2 cats -1 is deaf, and my daughter. She picked out the male for me, & he really does fit perfectly. I couldn't have done better myself.

[/quote1276865655] My oppinion is that THEY SHOULD HAVE ...GREAT ISSUES with strangers (the biggest possible) like any guard dog breed or they are NOT boerboels, or they are very, very bad ones. Any one should bear in mind that taking a boerboel or a CO, of sar, or a pressa canario, or a fila first he is hiring a guard dog to work and then a beloved pet. Thinking any different way is better not to destroy a breed by asking for stupid dogs out of this wonderfull guard dog breed and turn to get a st. bernard, a newffy or so on.
