Great info on Presa
So with so many out crosses and different breeding how then can it be called a breed and not just a Ban Dog?

Thanks! It was good one. Although, Iam not ready for a dog yet. Iam doing as much research as I can. This is such a conserversial breed. Its hard to know what is the correct type sometimes. Its up to the breeders to keep the dog in its working form. -

The breeders of the Club Espanol del Dogo Canario have been working hard, selectively breeding specimens of this breed since the early 80's. The type has been quite unified, albeit not in all circles that were not committed to this goal. The "breed" today breeds quite true, unlike a banddog. -

Are there any other differences, between the Dogo Canario and Presa Canario designation. -

There really isn't any major difference between Presa and Dogo. when the breed was recognised, dogs went to bed presas, and woke up dogo's. There are those who try to make them out as separate breeds (i.e one is the orignial, and one is a show dog) but basically that's just marketing tactics for why their dogs don't have to live up to the standard, and they can breed whatever they want. -

Thanks for the info. I like your site. The Majoreros are interesting. Have you breed them? Manuel Curto Breeds them as well. You maybe the only ones with them in the US. What are they like with other animals? Like cats. -

You have to look at the motives behind this comment. Dogo's were bred to look good with no attention to functionality. Presa's were bred for function foremost. There is no surprise why there is a huge rift between dogo and presa owners. The best advice I can give is to do a huge amount of research, and try to talk with those who were involved with the reconstruction of the breed. And also consider their motives. It was not just a name change. You have people who own dogo's callin their dogs presa's(doesn't make sense). If you own a dogo, call it a dogo. If you own a presa, then can rightfully call it a presa. -

Good post there sonny...Dogobabe answer this please... what makes you think that the presa people just want an excuse to breed what the hell they want?? when to me out of all the breeders i speak to that the presa breeders are the ones that care most about the breed and it is us presa people that are doing things like sign petitions to get rid of the "DOGO" and all go by the name of presa! we love our breed.. don not! confuse presa breeders for bandog breeders. -

LOL out of the many thousands of pres owners, slighty over 200 signed thepetition, wich BTW was doomed from the start because the "preseros" did not agree with it. Most use this "rustic Presa" as a means to sell dogs that dont fit any standard. BTW where is all the proof these "pure presas" are superior? it is all internet hype and sales pitches. -

Hmmm let's see, this thread died a year ago, bobobman. Why restart it if you're so "sick and tired of the mental masturbation that is the "dogo presa" argument"?
