feral dogs part 2
We have had issues with wild dogs coming after our livestock. We now have a dog capable of dealing with them another one is growing up. Feral dogs are a different story as they tend to shy away from people.

went hiking again this morning, got up pretty early, caught these guys in the field next to my house hunting around. theres quite a bit of gophers in this field. they had 2 pups with them. 2nd to last pic is the samed dog digging in the first pic, theres also a tiny black pup. the pup in the last pic facing away was built like a straight coyote. To me at least, its really cool to see these dogs and how they adapt to being built best for survival. medium sized, erect ears, thick coat, etc. [br][link={e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2309.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2309_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2310.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2310_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2311.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2311_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2312.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2312_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2313.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2313_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2315.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1329684716_18975_FT0_101_2315_.jpg">[/link][br] -

thanks for the pics, that's pretty cool. Thank God they don't try to get close to your dogs. I am sure those strays can do some damage. -

they did once, there was probably like 10 of them so they acted a bit more bold. it was just me and 1 of my dogs. The "leader" ran up and got into with my dog, another tried to jump in and bite him and i kicked it. i noticed they kinda tried to swarm us but they were mostly scared and just jumped around and barked. once I kicked the one dog, it ran off and they all followed. now when they see us, they keep their distance and bark at us. -

Yeah it has to be scary, I am sure those dogs have a tactic to attack as a team you don't want your dogs getting jumped. -

yeah, thats basically what happened, the pack mentality started to kick in but they pretty much scattered when i hopped in too basically. they keep their distance now tho. if they ever get too close throw rocks at them -

few pics of more feral dogs we come across while hiking in the pic where you basically cant see anything, its the black dog behind the tree, can barely make out his outline. dogs were far away and my dogs were tugging on the leash plus the feral dogs took off made for some hard pics to take. there was quite a bit more of them then in the pic, maybe 7-10 had some pups with them too.[br][link={e_FILE}public/1330828735_18975_FT86655_101_2357.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1330828735_18975_FT86655_101_2357_.jpg">[/link][br][br][link={e_FILE}public/1330828735_18975_FT86655_101_2358.jpg][img:width=500&height=333]{e_FILE}public/1330828735_18975_FT86655_101_2358_.jpg">[/link][br] -

Always find feral dogs fascinating, what do the hunt, are they they just majorly scavengers? These questions arent specific btw just ponderings. I also find it interesting how they all seem 2 revert to the asian/dingo look fairly soon after turning feral -

yeah, i see them hunting, they also come into the nieghborhood and dig through trash on trash days. I sometimes see coyotes doing the same thing in the nieghborhood. i think its pretty cool too, is survival of the fittest and the ones that survive are the ones like you described, medium build pariah type dogs. i would say they mostly scavenge. -
